Worth a bump. Everyone who reads this, please vote.

The SWQL seems pretty straight forward. Thanks for adding to this thread. Could you post a screen pic of the end result/output for your SWQL? That may be helpful too.

Just a small clarification. Traffic passing through a Layer-3 interface creates flow. Traffic passing through a Layer-2 interface does not create flow.

mesverrum, Thank you for your great information. I really appreciate it. I have forwarded the information on to our server team members who deal with Orion as it pertains to servers. Thanks again.

twolf420, I'm looking at the product, and am interested to hear if the information the jhynds posted helps you. Please follow-up after you've had a chance to try it out, and let me know how that works for you. Thanks.

rschroeder, some sort of implementation of what you are talking about shouldn't be too hard to do on our own. Long term data trends won't need per minute status. I'm thinking about stock prices... you are familiar with candlebars? They are graphical representations of opening, high, low and ending prices. When multiple…

I'm curious rschroeder, what does Splunk tell you? Do you have any examples?

Yes, We do have NPM. The report above is just part of the nodes table, so NCM shouldn't be necessary. But I can't say for sure since I am not coming from a non-NCM perspective. What was the result you got when you tried the SQL script above? If you want to see what is in the actual table, and then choose columns from the…

Thank you j_a_catlin and kstone for your replies. So, agreed, using a syslog filter should be able to assist in syslog management. The logical follow-up question becomes, "How to build a list/definition of actionable vs trivial syslog messages. I'm sure if I looked at some messages, I could determine some were…

I wonder tmumaugh, since many people have run the upgrade without issue (including yours truly), do you think there would have been a different outcome if you waited another month? I'm guessing that the result would have been the same next month as this week, and last month.

.Net 4.8 already? Just a few weeks ago, it was 4.7.2.
-
Bob, Could you please post your steps for doing that? Thanks, Eric

Thanks D09H, I do believe I did send that to our Linux Admin. I think it was in response to that, which caused him to wonder if there could be a faster way (less admin input) to do 500 computers.

dgsmith80 -- I think you are inferring that on the Sonar add-devices wizard, the "Interfaces" tab is for selecting which interfaces are monitored by NPM, and the "Ports" tab is for selecting which interfaces are monitored by UDT. Is that the underlying statement beneath your comment? So, for an office access switch, maybe…

David, you've probably found out that it does allow a backup of the existing bin first. But you can disable that on a per-event basis, or you can modify the default behavior be editing templates. This is from the edit firmware upgrade template screen:

Hi Rick. Sorry, I know this is an old thread. I came across this yesterday. I don't know if this feature was available in July of last year, but now you can set transfer protocol to SCP if you modify the upgrade template. You can modify the included templates, but you can create a copy and the modify the copy.

Since NOT is in use, then use AND in place of the OR. Using OR allows either test to satisfy the rule. Meaning, let's say a node has a primary application SQL and a secondary application KeyServer. The test against Application not like SQL would fail, but Application Secondary not like SQL would succeed, so the node would…

Do you have any additional information on this?

David, It seems SNMP might be configured incorrectly on your VG224, or your hardware is older. We have that model here, and Orion does recognize it as a Cisco VG224. Though we are not monitoring the individual Foreign Exchanges Stations and POTS ports, we could as they are listed in the resources. We are monitoring CPU and…

I have a couple Silver Peak Models that are "unknown", but they have the same OID. Silver Peak Model NX-5500 1.3.6.1.4.1.23867.1.2 Silver Peak Model NX-3500 1.3.6.1.4.1.23867.1.2

To be entirely honest, I didn't realize that Syslog Viewer still worked. back in the days of 8.5, all Solarwinds functionality had been individual stand alone programs. How well does that little program work with lots of messages (like 1,000,000)? So, I went in and had a look. I do see that the rules have much of the same…

I did some experimenting. If you want to know when the node first is unreachable, you'll want to alert when node status is warning. But, you might also want to know when the node status is officially down. So, now that I think more about it, I think the best alarm for the purpose stated above might be: Node Status has…

Mr. Xinu, I love learning something new. I am unfamiliar with Node Status = External. What does it mean, and how can you use it? Where do you access that status (I don't see External in the Advanced Alerts under Node Status)? Thanks, Eric
-
You were right. The alerts emails being received were emails from previously triggered alerts, which have "Repeat this actions every X minutes"... enabled on the action. I acknowledged the alerts, and that stopped the e-mails. Thanks. Giving you a Correct Answer mark.

Let's see if we can figure this out together. I don't think the problem is with Orion's capabilities. The issue is with time lines and manner of data representation in the MIBs. Interface Errors and Discards are available to you by default on an hourly and daily basis. The hourly and daily basis stats are calculated from…

Hi Frank. I found out the answer to my question, and forgot to post the answer. Yes, when installing NTA, if your Orion campus has APE, the install program will need to be run in the APEs too. It is a very easy process, the new installer makes things just so easy.

I have posted the posts, as requested. You can find them at, Part 1: Importing Data From Cisco https://thwack.solarwinds.com/message/423162#423162 Part 2: Importing Data From Orion https://thwack.solarwinds.com/message/423163#423163 Part 3: Combining Data, Reports, Updating Custom Properties…

Nice work bourlis. That is a good way to show the serial numbers in Solarwinds. I don't know if guseulitt found it useful since he didn't reply. I am working on a similar solution, but it goes step (a few steps) beyond a report of SN in SW DB. We have some hundreds of Cisco devices, when it comes time to audit for…
