Your statement, "More corporate backing legitimizes this technology." concerns me a little bit. Could you expand your thoughts on that statement? To me, that statements suggests 1 of 2 things. 1. A corporation has found a way to make money on me with minimal investment of their own (which is supported by several comments…

Oh, how many stories do we all have just like these! I bet the 9x5s SLA looks pretty good to you right about now. LOL D

Jiri Cvachovec, Is it possible to make the Node Details - Node Group a drop option as well? I did this for some of my NPM Custom Properties and it makes my life so much more enjoyable. Now I don't have to remember all the possibilities, I just pick the right one or create a new one. D

Network Management is a great theory/practice for an old-school, known, stable infrastructure; but I hope one of your discussion topics in this series is around the unknown, unstable, always changing world of BYOx (x = Tech, device, etc.). Traditional best practice designs are being challenged daily to accommodate…

Agreed, maybe split it up by vendor so we only pull down what we need. For example, I'm in a Cisco shop, why would I install anything else? If we decide to replace Cisco wireless with Aruba or something, then I can go get that vendor. D

Shattered opinion, no...clarity is key. Like you, I've seen both sides of this coin and prefer the Enterprise world (but I do like the challenges of an SMB). Cloud does make more sense, generally, for SMBs without IT staff. But there comes a point when bringing it inside, will make more sense. What's killing on-prem IT…

I'd like to see hardware module monitoring for the various chassis' based products. We have 9410s, but I've seen similar posts/requests for 4500s, 6500s, etc. D

The pie charts are built using groups. You need to create a group (or like me, several groups) for network devices and servers, I've also built groups for applications. D

Not saying I disagree (especially as a network/security engineer with Linux cert), but there are 2-sides to the story as well. One IT pro can't know everything (Jack of all trades, Master of none), but an organization of specialists can be costly. There is a fine line between integrated teams and true silos, and I really…

I voted this up, but I'm not entirely in agreement with the request. The NCM scale is based on the posted CVSS score, so I think it is what it is. But if you follow the security practice Asset (A) + Threat (T) + Vulnerability (V) = Risk (R), then what we really need is a way to calculate "R". Given "R", we then apply the…

This is precisely what I tried to say above. You are just better at saying it. This is also why we began investigating NetBrain, but I'd love to have this functionality in Orion...the data is already there. D

robertcbrowning , You can have the pie charts now. They won't have the fancy HTML borders, but that pie charting functionality can be done. Group status pie charts D

You are correct, per the release notes. 3.1MR10 (3.1.10010) and 4.1MR4 (4.1.04011) are supposed to work. However, also per the release notes: ------- AnyConnect Compatibility with Microsoft Windows 10 AnyConnect 4.1MR4(4.1.04011) and later are compatible with Windows 10 official release. Technical Assistance Center (TAC)…

All, Just found this today...Cisco AnyConnect is NOT compatible yet, and fails with no error. I think this is related to the Win8 TLS issue. D

adatole, As always, great series of posts! I would like to ask one questions however. There are lots of awesome examples just like this one posted by all the talented folks out there, but when a Head Geek has to take out of there creative schedules to blog about stuff like this it seems a little "odd." I say "odd" because…

Check out the upcoming features in 10.6 and 10.7. These are arriving to a NOC page near you. D

Well, it was worth a try to assist you. I just hope that through this process you have learned a great deal about the trials and tribulations of poor documentation. Agreed and onboard with the idea.

All, I realize this is an OLD (4.5 years) post that seems to have been revisited, but I felt it necessary to "add my 2 cents." It has been my experience that this is not a Nexus issue, the Nexus is doing it's job protecting itself (at least in newer code). The CoPP (Control Plane Policer) is protecting itself from…

Really surprised this only has 17 votes in 2.5 years. D

I'm curious if you have, or can gather, so information comparing Orion to vRealize? I've had the sales pitch, and they make a compelling argument in a strictly VMWare environment. I'm curious the takeaways you can gather or the feedback you can provide on the subject/comparison. D

@michael stump, I just wanted to put a thank you out here...this has been a great post for sparking communication among peers! D

I guess I didn't realize that until I just confirmed it. Wow! So, yes, we probably need a better maintenance option that can then be incorporated into my request.

I just had the tags request this morning from my management, for the same reasons. It would be nice to import the tags, then I can create a report on what instances have which tag for bill-back.
