Tech support got the additional poller fixed. One of the message queues was hosed. While he was in there, he disabled the topology junk. Thank you Ryan!

Here's a fun one. Check out the attached pic. An additional poller was not polling ANYTHING. The majority of those 1900 nodes that did not poll today were from it. I migrated the nodes to the other pollers, then uninstalled NPM on that server, deleted the unused polling engine on Engines.aspx, then reinstalled. Before…

I tried the registry hack (thanks rspoelstra and netlogix) and restarted the services, but it didn't change anything. Thank you for the suggestion, though.

Ticket 296929. Experienceing the topology/db sync issue, and also missing polls. I have 1900 nodes that have not polled today. Tech support said an update will be available for the topology/sync issue somewhere around the end of January or beginning of February. No response about the missing polls.

Google has lowered their pricing. If you're interested in keeping your personal maps personal, then this is the way to go. The price has been dropped from $4 per 1,000 map loads to $0.50 per 1000 map loads (1/8th the original price). You can view the Google Geo Developers Blog for more details.

Hi rspoelstra, Thanks for the idea. I'll try it now. What's the difference between them and the values on the PollingSettings page?
-
Customer portal is having issues this morning, too.
-
It's happening again! I'll check out the diagnostics files. If nothing stands out, I'll create a trouble ticket.
-
I had an open ticket. The technician had me delete all of the nodes that were showing up as unknown. I've since added the SP1, and I'm getting more unknown nodes appearing. The response from technical support was basically "get over it". ...then you can just delete that Node and re-add it back again. As I mentioned to you…

No update here. I got 2011.2.1 installed on the additional pollers. Things looked good for a while, but the problem came back. Waiting for another idea from SW tech support.
-
mezdem, You may be on to something here. -- Run the query with each engine/server name in turn , with the values returned from the engine table. -- Set the value for @servername and run see if any of them have a delay -- are your polling servers physically seperated- are there any issues on these servers? Thee queries…

netlogix, I checked out the performance guide like you suggested. It's a good read, but nothing new to help with this issue. Thanks again!

Same issues here: unknown statuses, false alerts, and unpingable nodes. I have 10.1.1 and the hotfixes installed, but not seeing an improvement. Not getting much help from the open trouble ticket either.

That was the last I've heard from them, and I'm starting to agree. My hardware diagnostics jutsu is pretty weak, but I found this message when running System Diagnostics: Warning:The average disk queue length is 1. The disk may be at its maximum transfer capacity due to throughput and disk seeks There were some major…

SolarWinds is usable again! It's still slow, but it's much better than it has been this month. Their conclusion is an active spooler and a poor disk controller are to blame. The spooler (which I never saw taxing the CPU) was shut down by SW, and we're trying to figure out the disk issue/solution. I don't understand it, but…

Also: * Host is always my primary server * Wait Type is always ASYNC_NETWORK_IO * NetPerfMonService.exe drops to 0% CPU during the block To me (I'm no db guru) this points to either buggy code or something misconfigured. Any thoughts/opinions?
-
Antivirus is disabled, and Poles Per Second Tuning is set to the recommended values. Good news though. The Dev Lead logged into the machine a few minutes ago, and he might be making headway! I'll keep you posted.
-
I'm on 10.1.1 as of yesterday morning. It took 3 or 4 hours to install.
-
Perfect! That's what I was looking for. Thanks, Andy.

Hi DH, The SW tech may have found the problem. The SolarWinds-Orion-Additional-Poller.exe that I downloaded 12/15/11 had the wrong Additional Poller installation inside it. Open the download and see if it contains SolarWinds-Orion-NPM-v10.2-Poller.exe (modified 11/07/11). If so, download it again. You should see…

The problem has re-appeared. I tried the netlogix script, but it didn't help. I've also moved the NetPerfMon database to a new, faster storage array.
-
Using Kaspersky over here. It hasn't climbed over 5% CPU, but closing it may have just helped.
-
Thanks netlogix! Things went from bad to worse when another problem showed up: "RunQuery failed, check fault information." To fix that, I ran the database maintenance and reinstalled. All is better for now, but I'm holding on to your script just in case.
-
Same issue here. CJ, did they find a solution? What was causing it? Thanks.
-
I'm sorry I don't understand. Where should I click to rediscover?
-
No luck. One additonal poller keeps dropping to 5%, the primary keeps losing its sync to the database, and reports are not updating. I've created a trouble ticket.
-
Using 9.5.1 here and having the same sort of problem. I set the Caption and DNS to the FQDN, then restarted the NetPerfMon service. After a while, the DNS changes to the FQDN of the NPM server, and the IP address changes to the server's IP. Thanks, Dave

Sorry, I should have been more specific. Customizations made with the Customize Page link still work. No problems. If there are any pages where you have gone onto the web server and changed their HTML, you will have to go back and edit them again.
-
Maybe so. At the very least, it's some sort of hiccup. The same thing happened to me on Friday. I changed them all to null this morning. So far that seems to have fixed it.

It seems to be an maximum integer issue. Anything 2^31 (2147483648) or above bombs out. OID 1.3.6.1.4.1.5528.100.4.1.10.1.8.2147483647 won't give you that error.
