Sorry for the delay in response.. I believe you are correct, so I'll get back in there and take a fresh look. The testing option by Brandon should be useful too; providing I can get the network engineers to participate.

Thanks; we're running NPM 11.5.3, so I'll investigate using this option, while still trying to keep the auditors happy.

So in IVIM 2.1.1 there is an option to allow VIM to try and change the setting in vCenter to raise the limit for max entities/query? Even if there is; our vm team would not allow it, as they believe it will cause too much load on the vCenter database

I get approached by SaaS vendors like ThousandEyes to offer to monitor our AWS hosted apps, and there's others in the wings to perform external monitoring. We watch the gateway addresses from some of our NPM instances but monitoring AWS servers with tools like SolarWinds NPM and SiteScope should be possible if they can be…

I have a similar issue with SAM results; a recurring error that will temporarily go away after running the DB config tool on the EOC server. We have plenty of space on the EOC database and plenty of system resources available, so the problem may be with EOC being unable to pull data from the NPM servers and write it back…

Indeed; we certainly could create OR statements in the existing generic alerts for each sensor type, but after pondering this a bit more I believe it may be necessary to break out a few specific alert rules for the chronic, chatty sensor types. The original mission was to minimize alert rule types down to as small a list…

Thanks very much for the response, but several questions remain that I can't seem to get answers from the product docs. One that was posed to us from our vm team was how does IVIM or VMAN respond to vCenter alarms? After looking through the manuals I think the answer is that neither product has a direct integration with…

Sadly I have all the latest updates except the NCM 7,.4 RC installed, and things are pretty bad since our largest system was upgraded. The upgrade of our external web servers all bombed at the end of the config with 403 errors, and repair of any of the installed components like this one for IPAM produce the same error. At…

Thanks for the reply. Sadly, we're already using the BulkRow mod and a few others in the SAM config: We set the BulkSize to 30, the MaxProcessCount to 50k, the Retry to 3 and the timeout to 30000. With these we hope to eliminate any possible slowness of response from the device when requesting a large amount of data from…

I checked the values in the KB on one of our new 11.0.1 NPM instances that appears to be experiencing the same issue with SAM monitors already (and its only got about 100 managed nodes at this time, with two APE's). The setting for PollMethod already appears to be using BulkRow: (taken from…

Thanks for the response; I agree about syslog being more reliable, but it is not without cost (in resource utilization on the management server side). Our syslog receiver was so badly abused by our network team that we actually had to stop that service on all polling engines permanently. The problem is that folks tend to…

Thanks for the info on how to configure this, but I've yet to see the query alert once it is enabled, and we have managed nodes consistently hitting high levels of CPU.... I tried to test using the query directly to the database with >1 in the last min, and no errors but no hits either... Hmm

EOC; the Eternally Overdue Console.

We're now having to seek other options for deploying executive dashboards and client dashboards, since I've not seen any development in EOC that facilitates using it for these critical deliverables.
-
Hopefully the EOC developers are working so furiously on the exciting new version of the product that they have not even had time to post any inspirational wisdom here. I second the notion by adamsrb that the new EOC should strive to play well with others... This would help make it a truly "enterprise-class" tool.

Like many of the strange and arcane views into the dark underbelly of Alert management in Orion, it was designed to to confuse the enemy.. anyone not trained in the black arts of alert management were frightened away by the ghostly text and cryptic descriptions...

We have been tasked with swinging collection of Exchange metrics from SAM agents into Azure as we migrate to Office 365, and from the sound of crickets I hear after you posed this great question, it would appear that none of the big brains at SolarWinds have figured out how to provide support for this functionality yet.…

I know this post is rather old, but I wanted to ask the question as to whether or not it would be easier to simply configure an SNMP trap alert to notify that a failover event has occurred instead of creating custom pollers and database tables to support all this collection. I applaud this effort and believe that it is a…

Instead of polling the HA devices I want to have them configured to send a trap to our NPM primary when a failover is performed (or attempted). I think you're correct 1.3.6.1.4.1.9.9.147.1.2.1.1.1.2 and .4 are the polled OIDs, but we ran into similar confusion to what Chris reported when attempting to consistently poll the…

I am now having this issue in several of our EOC dashboard views after simply cycling the product following license renewal... This is an issue between the EOC filter stack and what it maps to datatypes from the SWIS API. This has always been a fragile ship (like everything in the 1.x EOC), but the issue because more…

We have also experienced multiple instances of this issue since going to NPM 11.5 and SAM 6.2.0; nodes with unmanage/remanage schedules not changing status correctly, unable to remanage a node through the GUI consistently, and nodes that were remanaged show their SAM monitors still unmanaged and unable to remanage SAM…

Greetings; We are monitoring several Cisco Catalyst 38xx stack switches using NPM 11.5.2 HF2. I am being asked to determine how to monitor each individual stack element instead of only the floating stack IP and hostname. Cisco's doc does not appear to address this, so I wanted to see if you fine folks are familiar with a…

This hotfix should resolve the info service crashing issue, but it is a memory hog and performance is not so good overall. The resulting "upgraded" Information Service V3 should appear in Control Panel after the change as:
