Yep, I'm all for this. During maintenance, we just want to avoid notification flooding. We still would like to see if devices are up/down, especially as changes are performed. Perhaps a separate database table could be used for maintenance mode activity such that the details excluded from availability reports, etc would…

My mom opened the doors of opportunity in many areas, including technology. She (and my step-dad) bought my first computers and let me take a couple classes on typing and file management. That got the engine started. Of course she also put up with an inordinate amount of video game time (Command & Conquer, anyone?) and…

Lots of other products, especially Microsoft ones (Active Directory, SharePoint, etc) have Recycle Bins. It'd be great for Orion/NPM to have one has well.

Any chance we could expand this idea to relative windows? In other words, time periods that would allow for monthly schedules (i.e. 3rd Sunday) and then have a duration extending from the start time? This sorta overlaps with the Unmanage Utility, but it also fits with the other idea about Silencing Alerts while still…

Please!! Even the whole entry-recall like SNMP strings have would be good. It's a royal pain when I add new nodes to open another similar one to make sure I use the same fields. Thanks!
-
Yes! Node Details pages and others where I select a lot of check boxes drive me nuts when it refreshes and clears all of my actions <insert frustration />.
-
Definitely in favor of #1. The second suggestion could be good; sometimes tho, I'm just evaluating results. 50/50 on #2.
-
Hmm..just checked my end, and the same (clean) results as you. Maybe 10.3 fixed it?
-
Doesn't look like the same issue. 1) No results from the query SW gave you 2) Yours seemed to show up in Node Details as well; mine is all-clear there, just not in Network Atlas 3) The only issues are on core switches, so the unpluggable feature isn't appropriate (I want to know if something comes up/down) I'll prolly open…

Hmm...maybe SW needs some 5520s running 8.4 in their lab . Or Cisco needs to run NPM... I can see each vendor favoring a different option

Scratch that. As soon as I posted, two servers (one W2k3 and one W2k8) stopped responding to SNMP. For whatever reason, a significant policy refresh happens at 1:41pm each day, and SNMP doesn't seem to be able to handle it, even with the refresh. The difference now, though, is that I'm not seeing any errors in the system…

Nothing on my end, unfortunately. In the last 30 days, I had another spike (just one) that varies some from the previous. At noon on May 12th, the CPU check showed 19114% on both CPUs. That doubles to 38228%, which blows my prior theory of a variable default/max. If you have SMARTnet on your ASA(s) and have time, give TAC…

Here's the case number: Case #180726 Thanks! Chris

Thanks for the updates. Yeah, same here.

I know this is an old thread, but I'm on 10.3 and having this issue as well. Oddly, though, the down child objects only show up on Network Atlas Maps. Node Details show everything green with no issues or child object problems, but I can't get my map to clear up . And I've tried the unmanage thing as well as removing all…

Contrary to Microsoft's KBs, it appears that both hotfixes require reboots, even if you stop the SNMP service before applying them. So far, we're running 24 hours w/o failing on a Win2k8 box that has tended to fail w/i 6hrs of a reboot. And I just rebooted a Win2k3 box, so we'll see if it comes back there by tomorrow…

Sorry guys for the ping-pong on all this, but after running a weekend, we think that our two residual boxes that aren't responding are probably due to unique conditions on them. One was a W2k3 upgrade to W2k8, which was a workaround of sorts to clear up WMI issues a couple years back. Anything could be wrong with that…

The SNMP hotfix in KB980259 was included in Windows Server 2008 R2 Service Pack 1, so most of our systems were covered this Sunday when we deployed it. The few systems that have stopped responding since then are all Win2k8 (non-R2) or Win2k3. We've downloaded the hotfixes and are preparing to test them on those OSes. As…

Will do. And sorry if that came across condescending. Trying to explain thought processes and logic in forums is challenging, to say the least, much less hoping that tone carries with it :). PM on the way... ~Chris

I'll open a support ticket this morning. The ports are all set to unpluggable, so they don't create events when they go down, but they do create events when they come up. Hence, the events I'm wishing to suppress are the speed changes and user access ports coming up. Thanks, Chris

Gladly!

Hey Jeremiah, If you still have the ticket open, can you ask them what variable type is used to store the CPU value? I'm just wondering if we're seeing these incorrect values because of the ASAs returning null data to a request (in which case Orion uses the max value of the "short int" variable type, 32767). Granted, that…

Gladly.

@jspanitz, I made the tweak to the resource and use the filter given in the comment. That's the best filter for me. ((unpluggable is null) or (unpluggable <> 1)) --Chris // Due to the repeat of the original post/answer at the top of page 2, I posted again as it appeared that I was hitting the wrong thread. I've reported my…

Eh, I made the tweak to the resource and use the filter given in the comment: ((unpluggable is null) or (unpluggable <> 1)) --Chris

No, he actually just means "managing". Unpluggable interfaces will still pour forth the speed change events. I created a support ticket about that, and the answer was: These are system generated events and can not be changed. These are hard coded into the software. The unpluggable option under interfaces is to keep…

It seems to be intermittent a/o we don't have any recommendations currently, so I'll have to wait and see if it reappears before I create a case (no flagged alerts currently). Of course, with the way VMan seems to work at times, alerts and such hang around latently until enough time has passed or the indexes are rebuilt.…

Sounds good and agree, Craig. I incorrectly gained the impression of a negative bias against VMs. In our environment we use hosts with four sockets and 10 cores per socket so they can handle beefy VMs. On top of that, backend shared storage more than provides for the VMs' I/O needs. Makes sense with the service…

Brandon, In your reply, you explained the "what"/"why" behind Dependencies, and then you switched to explaining the "when" of the Unmanage action. What/Why: "Dependencies are meant to handle alert suppression as it's main primary use case." When: "Unmanaged is for maintenance windows or scheduled downtime." Thus, you…

Due to the layers of monitoring we have on our pool members, I currently do not have any alerts setup for down pool members. That said, we also use Kiwi Syslog Server and I have a filter/rule setup there to forward traps from our LTMs when pool members go up/down to Orion so I can see them there. If you use something like…
