It turns out that the issue here is that I was inheriting admin permissions as part of an AD group. Apparently WPM doesn't recognize that properly for this purpose. Once we added my AD account specifically within Orion, the problem went away. I've requested that Solarwinds support open a bug report on this.

There are two options you can do for this. I think the second one is easier. Option 1: copy run start${CRLF}${CRLF}${CRLF}${CRLF} Option 2: copy run start! In the first option, the ${CRLF} tells Solarwinds to insert a carriage return and line feed (in effect, pressing ENTER). In the second option, the ! denotes a comment…

Have you selected to download both the startup and running configurations in your config backup job?

Based on the additional details above, although our size is similar, I would not recommend moving to a virtual environment at your installation size. While we are running well in one at a similar size, the difference is that we were probably half the size when we virtualized, and grew to where we are. I expect that within…

It depends on the size of your installation. Right now we run NPM, NCM and SAM, additional polling engines and the SQL server on VMWare and performance is acceptable. I would imagine that if we got significantly larger that we may need to move to physical hardware, especially for the SQL server. Our polling cycles are also…

Try running the Solarwinds Configuration Wizard, which should already be installed on your SW application server. That should resolve the issue for you. Also make sure that if you have any devices configured to send Syslog and/or Traps to your SW server, that you change those devices' configurations to use the new…

You're in, welcome! There's nothing special you have to do in order to join. Are there any questions we can help you with?

Is upgrading MacOS an option? I'm running 10.10 and I have no issues accessing our NPM installation. Ours also uses a properly-obtained SSL certificate.

If you are talking about disabling certain alerts entirely, then from the console or an RDP session of your main Orion server, run Advanced Alert Manager and uncheck. Go into "configure alerts" and uncheck the alerts you want to deactivate. If you want to modify the criteria for an alert, then just edit the alert in…

I would start by RDPing to the primary Orion server and doing an NSLOOKUP or ping of the additional polling engine (APE). If you can't resolve the name of the APE from the primary server, then you do, in fact, have a DNS issue that you need to resolve.

The only way this could be anything but a Cisco issue is if you have created an SNMP Trap alert that forwards a copy of the trap back to the Solarwinds server itself. If that were the case, however, you would be seeing a continuous stream of traps, not just one every couple minutes. This would have to be a Cisco issue,…

I don't believe any additional firewall changes are needed. The permissions requirements for AppInsight for SQL can be found here: SolarWinds Knowledge Base :: AppInsight for SQL Requirements and Permissions

It looks like the earliest version of NCM still available for download is 7.0. If you have the NCM 6.0 installer already downloaded somewhere, there should be a folder within the ZIP file called Orion-NPM-Integration. The NPM/NCM integration installer is located within that folder; it is not a separate download.

The shorter your polling interval, the less the capacity of the polling engine. This is because you are increasing the number of polls that must happen per unit of time. Likewise, increasing your polling interval increases the capacity of the server. In fact, if you exceed the capacity of your server, Orion will…

What is the trigger condition for this alert? For certain trigger conditions, "Reset this alert when trigger condition is no longer true" isn't applicable or meaningful.
-
Are you getting an up alert, but not a down alert? If so, it's likely you created an alert that fires when these components goes down, but delays sending an email for a period of time, possibly to prevent receiving alerts for transient conditions. If this is what you are trying to accomplish, then you need to include the…

See the post from erocky21 in this thread: Re: NPM 11.5 Network Atlas is Dead

Is this only happening on one switch? If so, it's likely the switch or something on the network in between. Two things that would be helpful in understanding the problem: 1. Try running a continuous ping of the switch in question from the command line of your polling server (if you only have one Orion server, that's the…

As an alternative, if you have SAM in addition to NPM, you might also consider monitoring the UPS performance as an application (such as with the APC UPS - Updated template). This will streamline alerting and also ease view management. I find this a lot easier to manage than a bunch of UnDPs.

It looks like there's some type of firewall or IPS at or between 216.161.12.178 and 192.168.2.27 that is flagging and blocking the traffic from the Solarwinds server. Thanks, ~Terry

There are two different places to delay execution of an action. The first, on the Trigger Condition page, is labeled "Do not trigger this action until condition exists for more than," and will delay the alert being triggered. The alert will not show up until the amount of time listed has elapsed. The second is available on…

Why not just monitor the available space on the volumes? If you're using a folder monitor, you need the full path to the folder, which would be E:\ for the root, not just E.

I just got the following today from an account executive whose name I don't recognize... As the Account Executive for the North East, I am reaching out in regards to the network monitoring project I show in our system. The notes have this flagged as “Delayed”, but it is unclear why? We have recently released a new version…

The main corporate number is 512.682.9300 or 866.530.8100. I'm pretty sure there's a phone tree off that number with an option to reach support. You can also open a ticket through the customer portal (Customer Portal Login | SolarWinds). EDIT: It looks like an issue with their toll-free provider. The 866 number above also…

There is a note in NPM 11.5 rollback process indicating that Solarwinds support now has a fix for this issue.

Did you upgrade the APEs as well, or just the main server? If you have not upgraded the APEs I would recommend doing that.

The following article should help: http://kb.paessler.com/en/topic/41843-how-do-i-activate-snmp-on-mac-os-in-order-to-monitor-it-with-prtg Note that step 4 is specific to monitoring in PRTG, so you should skip that step as it won't be relevant here. The rest should carry over just fine.

I found a sort of "back door" way to accomplish this. I created an alert on the tunnel interface that will trigger in either of the following cases: * Interface is down * Recv packet size is equal to 0 If there is absolutely no incoming traffic at all in a polling interval, it's a safe bet the tunnel is not working.

Do you have Server and Application Monitor? If so, you could create an application with an SNMP Monitor component, and set the thresholds appropriately for that component. You could then add a view of that application to your desktop, and it will show appropriately with a warning or critical status icon.

1. Sometimes 2. Usually multiple browser tabs, plus recording on either pen and paper or Excel depending on how long I'll need the information.
