I'd also point out that the people who have the certifications likely aren't pushing for easier configuration, either. After spending time and money getting certified, many likely see it as not in their best interest to make it easier for others to support those platforms they worked so hard (and spent so much) to learn.

I agree with you here. Even if it doesn't relate to my area, it's nice to be able to share information with teammates on what our monitoring platform can provide.
-
Trying to go cheap on the supporting infrastructure is definitely a recipe for disaster her, as well as for higher costs in the long run.
-
Very useful. Thanks for this post!

I think this IS the support group.

I like that, although comparing oneself to a bug might not be the best approach in an IT interview!

This is awesome! I didn't know that even existed. Stuff like this is why I read Thwack regularly. You've just made me better at my job. As soon as I saw this, I added the "All Alerts this object can trigger" view to my node view. While I was able to find the view, I couldn't find the report. Where would I find that in…

Somehow I don't see a problem with comments on User Experience in a thread dedicated to gaining feedback on User Experience.

I LIKE that. That could lead to some interesting matchups. Chewbacca vs. Mini-Me, anyone?

Very nice. I have to admit I've never really thought about fully leveraging SAM as a security tool. I'll have to put some thought into this.
-
I don't see those options either, in Firefox or Chrome.

Customer satisfaction numbers are essential, I agree. Unless that satisfaction can be translated to a dollar amount, they're not particularly helpful in calculating ROI.
-
Maybe we need a Solarwinds-branded one of these in the Thwack store:

I'm with you on this. I'm not a DBA so I read this type of thing mainly in hopes of gathering little nuggets of useful information to come back to later. I'll be interested to see the theories that people post.

Are you sure you're spelling it correctly? No letter should appear twice in a row in the answer.

Thanks for the update, DanielleH!

I think that transparent policies are important. Most issues arise not from people being tracked, but from people being tracked in ways they didn't expect.

I'm not talking about stale leases. I'm referring to cases where computers have been given DHCP reservations (for example, if that computer needs special permissions on the proxy for some application). The reason goes away, the computer is eventually replaced, but the reservation is never removed.

This is strange... I got in just fine on Chrome.

Pfeh! That's what Universal Device Pollers are for!

cahunt, I suspect it's new to 11.5. With the new web-based alert manager, the scope and trigger criteria are two separate sections. I had wondered why they did that, but this post answers that question.

This mindset seems to rear its head when deploying network management systems. I recently had a conversation about someone who thought they should be able to set up network monitoring and then just let it run, not needing to touch it again. I said to tell them that is true only as long as they don't change anything about…

We had that situation a lot at my last employer.

That's a great analogy, and is something I'm working on now. You might say that pi-shaped experts are... well rounded.

Nice to see an entire mission devoted to UX! Looking forward to the improvements that follow from this.

You can only edit a post within a limited amount of time (15 minutes, I think) from when the post was made.

It's probably the shoes.

Awesome! I had that same one as well. I also had a 300-baud acoustic coupler that my uncle gave me to tinker with if I wanted to. When I got in trouble and had my modem taken away, I would sometimes sneak out the acoustic coupler to get online while my parents weren't home. Eventually I saved up my money and bought myself…

That's probably going to be custom SQL, but to be honest, I'm not entirely sure of the syntax. Hopefully someone can step in and help with that question. It's going to be tricky because SW returns the % sign as part of the ${VolumePercentAvailable} value, which means it's a varchar and not numeric. EDIT: Actually, I would…

I would double-check that you have the conditions set properly in both cases (and vs. or, less than vs less than or equal, etc). I'd also check some of those 25 objects and see if the condition actually exists on those objects.
