For clarification, if I discover my vCenter server, would I still need SNMP on each virtual machine? I seem to remember trying this but not seeing anything on th VMs.

I configured that alert as you suggested and it works like a champ. Thank you both so much for the help. I have moved forward with many new alerts thanks to your help. Have a great weekend. - Dave

What I needs a an alert when a group member reboots.

Actually, I just figured this out. Create a Smart Group, have it start with all monitors, but add a line that removes the group that you do not want listed. Works like a charm. Thanks me.

Look at the charts below. They are from 10:00 Am to 11:00 AM today. You will see that the APM chart below (Green) shows that the % Processor Time went above 75% around 10:45AM. The default warning threshold for % Processor Time in APM is 75%. An alert was generated. BUT, in the NPM chart below (Red), the CPU utilization…

Task Manager on the server matches the CPU numbers from NPM.

The charts below do not illustrate the actual problem that I am having (that seems to have stopped of course), but they still pose the same question. The time frame for both charts is 3/8/12, 1:00AM to 4:00AM. NPM shows the CPU at or below ~18% APM shows % Processor Time at or above 50%. What is the difference?

Thanks to all of your suggestions, this is what I came up with and it works like a charm... I did not realize that I had to create new conditions under the second group and could not just move the conditions from above down. When I just moved them down, they did not indent and therefor were not recognized. Thanks again all.

Would this work?

Never mind. I got my NPM and my APM confused. I have it setup as we pointed out in the posts above and all is well. - In NPM, I have everything BUT the SAN drives being watched for each of the two cluster node servers - In NPM, I have ONLY have the shared drives being watched for the cluster node (the cluster IP address) -…

Thanks for the confirmation. One question though; how can I rename the elements to the Cluster name? I have already renamed the "parent" element to the Cluster name, but each "child" element under it still shows the primary node's name. Thanks for your help!

Well I finally got it to work by following all of your suggestions and throwing in some luck. I added/enabled the predefined Custom Property "CustomerName". On the servers for the Maximo group, I added "Maximo" to that field, on each server. Then I created the following alert: And only had the Maximo team email addresses…

This is what I want: To get this, I set the first condition with the Type set to Group. The second condition I set Type to Node. When I try to save this and open it again, I get this: Needless to say, this did not work.

I just realized that I gave no details. Orion NPM v 10.1 monitoring Windows servers.
