I just came across this post in this thread as I noticed the same service taking an extreme amount of memory for me yesterday. I restarted the service last night and all is well (so far). Was there any resolution offered by support?

Support assisted in the resolution of this issue. In short, I needed to reset the polling method directly in the database which effectively reset the license count. I was then able to change the polling method in Orion and get all nodes polling properly.

Yes we've had the same issue for some time. It is quite annoying. IIRC it was mentioned at the SWUG in NY that vCenter 6.7 may fix the problem, but we aren't there yet, so I have no first hand knowledge.
