APM is a module for NPM. All of you alerting for things in APM is still handled through the Advanced Alert Manager for NPM. Go into Advanced Alert Manager and under any alert you will have an option in the Trigger Conditions pull down to select APM: Application or APM: Component to specify which one you want to alert on.

Ah, thanks Marie and Brandon. I always prefer to see that it's a known bug versus something "unique" with my system. = )

I just uploaded one of my UnDP templates that I use to poll installed software. Once you do this you will have a list of all installed software packages for each system stored in your database. This allows you to run queries against specific packages. Unfortunately I am not very good at SQL so I can't help much with the…

Open the map first, then right click on the map and choose "Properties". Once in there you will see an option called "Override Account Limitations for this map". If you select "Remove Nodes that users don't have permissions to view" it will do exactly that; however, users will still be able to get to and see the map…

Thanks for asking this question and thanks to Denny for the response. We are rolling out a similiar setup and I had wondered about this very same thing and the response from Denny gives me a new set of possibilities to consider. Thanks!

In this case you could create one alert for all 10 sites and have it only fire off it all of the sites are down. If there was a way for you to monitor the fiber hub you could use dependencies but it sounds like that isn't an option here.

My recommendation would be to get a copy of the SolarWinds Kiwi Syslog Server. You can send all of your logs to it as your archive point and it will even allow you to compress the logs to save space for long term storage. From there you can also forward just the important logs for alerting to your Orion server and spoof…

Log into the system that Orion is running on and launch the Win32 application called "Report Scheduler". From there you just create a new schedule and walk through the wizard. At a certain point in the process it will have you put in the URL that you want to use, here you can use any Orion or non-Orion URL.

Sure, I could also use a clunky free product or a second NPM install but I do not think I should have too. I am going to agree with Donald on this one. While I think the "duct tape a bailing wire" options are great in IT to keep things running, I don't like to run my business with them; they are difficult to manage at best…

If you were able to write a report is it something you can share?

Much like timf we also run two web servers and load balance between the two. Our primary reason for doing this was to both support the load of our customers accessing the system as well as to seperate the web servers for security purposes. Besides the frustrations that timf mentioned I have also found that if you want any…

As noted in my last post, this is still a problem on the most current version of NPM.
-
Nope, no macros here... unless they are hiding as part of a devious plot to thwart my system.

It will definitely be a good idea to learn the database layout and be able to write some SQL queries. To all Orion users/admins I recommend the SAMS Teach Yourself SQL in 10 Minutes book. It doesn't wast time telling you the history of a database, it just jumps right in on how to write queries.

rob.hock thanks! I am currently on 11.0.1, are there enough issues with 11.5.1 to where I should hold off until 11.5.2?
-
Is this done through the Alerts functionality or is there some other place to turn this on and off? I don't see anything in the Web interface You need to log on to your primary Orion system and launch the Advanced Alert Manager application. This is where the power of Orion lies, you can define your alerts for pretty much…

I will go ahead and create an Idea (Feature Request) for that tonight. My specific use case is that we have created a lot of custom script monitors (mostly for monitoring our facilities/data-center where having a custom component view would be a lot more appropriate. One of the more general issues is the gauge ranges. The…

Hrm, I can't be sure of this but I think you may have conflicting conditions.... At the top you say Node Status is equal to Down, at the bottom you say Node Status is equal to Up My guess is that these two are in conflict with each other making the statement impossible to meet. You should take a look at the SQL statement…

Also, I thought I would point out a nifty element that SolarWinds has available for your interface. It summarizes all of the logs that your system has received and can be very useful for quickly identifying nodes that are generating large quantities of logs.
-
The one produced by SolarWinds is called Log Forwarder for Windows. If you log into your SolarWinds customer portal and select Additional Components on the left menu you should be able to find it. There is also a different open source product called NTsyslog and you can find it at the link below.…

As a quick off the cuff answer, I don't think you can change those graphs to be the stacked graphs you are referring to. They are different types of data and therefore they need to be visualized in different ways. At the Cluster level you are looking at data about the cluster versus looking at Host level data. The Cluster…

Nicole; you are correct! I just tested this and it seemed to work. Please feel free to un-mark my answer as correct, thanks for the info!

In this case I was really hoping to use the reports because I can have it save out to a UNC path which can then be made available to a client to look at their reports. The problem is I need a way to set an explicit data set so that the report only looks at the specific nodes applicable to the client. Because LEM isn't a…

Sunday Have you done any testing with alerts to see how they function. If not, I might suggest you play around with them to get a feel for how they work. The book knowledge is important but having some experience with it is important also.
-
I guess what I really need to know is as follows... When an Advanced Alert is in a tripped state, does the alert engine look at the Trigger Conditions or does it just look at the Rearm Conditions? I really hope somebody out there can answer this for me as it is going to play an important role in how I have to handle…

Oh, I think that name change is good, I had suggested at one point that they consider a more appropriate name for the product. I am assuming that it's only a name change and that all customers with APM will be converted to SAM?

ecklerwr1 I am using v11 in production; however, I am not using the new sensor capabilities yet.

Monitoring external websites is typically very easy to do. Few questions for you... * Did you setup an external node to assign the monitor to? * Did you use the HTTP monitor and customize it for the URL that you want to monitor? * For the website you are trying to monitor; can you pull it up on a browser from your polling…

Sorry I couldn't bring you better news. On the positive side, APM is a very awesome module to have, we make very extensive use of it and I am mostly happy with it.

You are correct, it did break things. I will strike that comment from the books!
