  • I guess the question is what are you looking for at this point? Do you want to be alerted in some way every time this happens? To me it would seem that you have at least partially confirmed the issue that your users are experiencing. It sounds like a network issue so my next step would be to get more data from the border…
  • I have to agree with Miron, your problem isn't technical. If you abandon Orion and move to a different solution you will likely have the same problem. We have Orion create tickets in our ticketing system assigning those tickets to the appropriate groups. Those groups are then accountable for handling those tickets…
  • Spudnet We (like many of the other folks that have responded) are also a SolarWinds customer and have just recently become an authorized partner. When we first started working with the product about 2 years ago I also had problems with the knowledge level and responsiveness of the SolarWinds support team. Since then I have…
  • Survey taken, looking forward to see what you put together for the event!
  • Open your advanced alert manager Go to the Trigger Condition tab Choose Volume under the Type of Property to Monitor The rest should be pretty straight forward, below is a screenshot of how I have it set Hope this helps!
  • One option you have is to setup dependencies, all of the devices that depend on the core switch would be set to have that device as a dependency, that way when the core switch goes down all of the devices that depend on it would simply be marked as unreachable.
  • Really like where you are going with this one Donald, good idea.
  • Setup a custom property so that you can note something unique on those nodes. Then when you create an alert for node down add a condition for that custom property being equal to what ever it is you set for those nodes. Lastly, in the alert you can set that the condition has to exist for a specified amount of time before it…
  • Don Unfortunately you will need to purchase the Additional Web component in order to run the web server on a different system. Are there specific performance issues you are experiencing? Also, how many users do you have accessing the WebUI and is your primary system under heavy load now?
  • With as powerful of a tool as LEM is I have to think some folks out there have used it to solve some very unique and interesting problems?
  • Also please share any interesting integrations you may have done with LEM.
  • Yes, this would need to be a custom SQL report. The tables you need to tie together are VIM_VirtualMachines and Nodes Hope this helps!
  • My guess is that this question is intended to be more of a general question about network management and running an NMS and in that case it would be true. However, I have to admit that it's ironic that in this case Orion doesn't fit the standard mold. = )
  • Sorry for the slow response, I didn't see this post. The AT&T Serial IP address for this node is: [I'm not sure what variable to put here. I want to fill in the ip address for the serial interface of the node] Is this information located some place on the node where you can capture it? The local contact for this site is:…
  • When you setup the poller to show the information in the display there is an option to have it only show if there is data available. Since the data will only be available on that node it should only display for that one. It's called Auto-Hide Resource and should be selected by default if I recall correctly. Hope this helps!
  • Best practices would suggest that you want to monitor the volumes as they appear in Orion. The reason for this is that if certain volumes fill up you will run into system problems regardless of what the physical drive looks like. If you want to monitor these volumes you may want to go to a higher or unlimited Orion…
  • Really would like a SW response on this if possible as this is something that I need to do.
  • I was really excited when I saw this. Private companies have the luxery of focusing on their clients and the long term strategy of their product as opposed to public companies which are forced to focus on short term quarterly profits at the cost of everything else. I think going private would allow SolarWinds to focus on…
  • I just opened a feature request for this.
  • Are the two servers on the same LAN, if not you might try running a Netpath from one to the other to see what the connectivity looks like. Also, how are the files being copied, is it some type of application involved in the copying of the files?
  • I just confirmed with SolarWinds Support that canned or template based responses are not currently supported in the product.
  • I would really love to see some basic improvements to Custom Properties such as having the ability to group them (as requested HERE) and the ability to order them (as indicated HERE). Considering these are so important to the core of the product having some basic management of them would be incredibly useful.
  • Once the agent is installed on the box you then need to configure a tool/connector for that log.
  • Donald This one also bites me more than I like to think about. I did have the opportunity to speak with the product managers about a new product they are working on that sounds as though it may help with this. However, until I see it solve my problem I will continue to agree with you on this one!
  • It would also be nice if it pulled the detail information from the MIB that explains what the trap is, having this available with the trap or when you click on it would be nice. The reason that this is important is because many traps such as HP has one trap for a single thing such as a drive array state change and all the…
  • Orion NPM can do Disk, CPU, and Memory. For more application level monitoring you will need to get the Orion APM module for your NPM system. The best way to tell if Orion is going to meet you needs is to install it and compare it side-by-side with your current system.
  • Set a rule in the Orion Syslog system to forward all of the logs to the Splunk system. I believe as of v10 you have the option to have the log keep it's original source system details intact as it forwards the logs to your Splunk system.
  • I am currently engaged in a project that requires me to find a solution for this if at all possible so I would really love some feedback here.
  • Seems I may have bigger problems than I thought, it looks like the application availability for all of my application monitors have been failing since it got upgraded. When I attempted to test a component on a node I received the following Website Error... The Orion website is currently unable to display this page. Orion…
  • Any ideas on this?
