Here is the graph and you can see where the problem started.

This is one of the beauties and strengths of APM, it can monitor anything that runs as a service in addition to many other things. You can always download a trial version and try it for free. In short, yes these are services and therefore can be monitored by APM. Hope this helps!

In looking at the database the values for these always seems to be the same.

I was ultimately able to resolve this by changing the account the Orion Agent Service runs as to an account that has access to SQL. While this isn't the best solution, its better than nothing. Hopefully the SolarWinds development team will be looking to make this easier and more supported in the future.

So, I must be missing something but it doesn't seem like you can use AppInsight for SQL on an Agent based system out-of-the-box, can anybody else confirm if this is true? If not can you please tell me what I need to do to make this work?
-
No, the Orion suite of products only run under Windows. You can monitor and manage Linux/Unix systems with them but the applications need to be installed in an Windows environment.

I think a user poll for what folks are looking for next with AppInsight would be interesting, some ones that come to mind are as follows... * Active Directory * MySQL * Oracle * IIS
-
I would love to see Exchange and MySQL on the short list.

I agree that using a counter that can easily be reset to determine Uptime is generally a bad idea and fully support considering a better solution. However, the problem with the suggested solution is that the OID 1.3.6.1.2.1.25.1.1 only exists on most servers but not on other SNMP supported devices such as Network gear. If…

I guess I will start by explaining the problem I had to solve... We are using Cisco IPSLA for measuring link quality for multiple links across our state. One of the particular IPSLA items we are concerned about is MOS and unfortunately due to limited budget I am unable to purchase the SW IPSLA module for Orion so I have…

You can find a Windows disk I/O Universal Poller HERE for SNMP Informant. HERE you can find some additional details regrading capturing Windows disk I/O.

It seems that this was caused by a communication error. Orion seems to bind itself to the highest priority NIC in the system which in this case was the back-channel interface which created a communication problem. Going into the advanced interface settings and changing the priority of the NIC's around resolved this problem.

The UnDP's use the same polling interval as the Default Node Statistics Poll Interval... I think. This is set on at a global level but can be modified at a per-node level.
-
So, basically Orion isn't doing a MIB lookup. Is there a way to get it to do that so I get more useful information on the traps?
-
Genesys I think that the threshold you are talking about is only for changing the color to red in the web interface when it goes beyond that level. If this is what you are talking about; that is only aesthetic to suggest it may be worth looking at. You can setup threshold alerts for different levels in the Advanced Alert…

The specific error it gives under the little orange info tap is as follows: Unexpected error occurred. The underlying connection was closed: Could not establish trust relationship for the SSL/TLS secure channel.

Unfortunately Orion is not aware of multiple IP's on a single device. Each responding IP that it finds it will often treat as a new device which is what it sounds like has happened. I am not aware of any way to merge devices thought if this is possible I would be interested to find out how.

Somebody.... anybody.... help!

I think there is a better way to accomplish what you are trying to do. I have two volume alerts, one is called "Default Volume Alert" and the other is called "Custom Volume Alert". I also have a Custom Volume Property called "Utilization Threshold". If the value in the Utilization Threshold custom property is empty then my…

Somebody... anybody?

There is an Alerts view that pretty much shows exactly this. Assuming you haven't changed your menu bar from the default, there is an option on it called Alerts. If you don't see it, try putting this into your address bar.. http://<your Orion server>/Orion/NetPerfMon/Alerts.aspx Let me know if this helps!

I am glad you asked this question as I had recently been mulling over the idea of asking a similar question. Why does N-able continue to be excluded from SolarWinds? It doesn't show up on the home page and it doesn't show up in Thwack. I would understand if this were a new acquisition but it's not, it was acquired back in…

I would find this information useful as well. Currently our Orion pollers are each assigned 1 vCPU and the two pollers share a resource reserve of 2Ghz with an unlimited expandability and things seem to be running fairly well; however I have wondered if providing additional vCPU's would help. I know that with VMWare you…

Congrats Dez, you totally deserve this! You have the accomplishments, knowledge and presence to do a fantastic job representing SolarWinds as a Head Geek!

Thanks for the additional info, now that I know what the NATO5 means it makes a lot more sense... I like it. Just wanted to circle back on the connectors bit for one sec... Getting to know connectors This is tricky because the connector templates are only stored on the appliance and not (that I know of) available to…

Unfortunately reporting is one of the weaknesses in the LEM product. The Reporting application has some good canned reports but if you want anything beyond what is in those you begin to run into issues. HERE I have submitted a feature request to significantly enhance the experience with support in LEM.

Below is a link to the KB article on how to create custom reports using the LEM Reporting application. I hope this helps! SolarWinds Knowledge Base :: Creating a Custom Filtered Report

In case you are curious how to configure these syslog alerts, go to the console of your primary Orion server and launch the Syslog Viewer application. Once in there click on View --> Alerts/Filter Rules. Once in there you can create syslog alert rules. Keep in mind that these rules are processed in the order in which they…

Yes, Syslog alerts are configured similar to other alerts in Orion and an email action is one of the options. Within that email alert you have the option to send the syslog message that tripped the alert as a variable. Which syslogs trip the alert is completely customizable using regular expression. Hope this helps.

Each node in an Orion poller will need to have a unique IP address associated with it. We have several customers that are using overlapping private IP addresses and the way we accomplish this is very similar to you if not the same. We use a NAT box where each customer private IP address is translated to a unique IP for…
