Another case for SNMP to ICMP that we have run into: one of our vendors does not support bulk get requests. We are seeing issues with their hardware and want to rule out that the bulk get isn't causing the issue. We don't want to lose all the historical data we have compiled for the device, but need to migrate to ICMP-only…

UnDP status on maps would be a key feature for us as well.

Always fun when you need a monitoring system to monitor your monitoring system...

We have a combination of around 25 enabled alerts currently. Many depend on at least one custom property for classification and alerting the correct department. I intend to add many more - however I am a bit hung up on the database connection errors. I don't see any way to really tell what information is being lost when…
-
That's an interesting question because we do have a lot of alerts and do have issues with a lack of available database connections in the pool for the alerting engine at times. However we are a service provider with hundreds of network nodes (infrastructure not customers) and interfaces that we monitor and specificy…

I did go back and verify. All the devices that I tested were v2c.

To be clear. :) The box is running NPM for <200 nodes, <400 interfaces, <25 volumes, APM for <20 application monitors. NCM is installed, but not being used currently. No wireless, voice, or netflow modules/flows. I do have a fair number of UnDP configured... probably about 400-500. 5 minute poll cycle typical

Did you not discover these issues when you evlauated the product or did you install directly to production? It might take you more than one week of product usage to get into synch with any customized enviroment. Hang in there. We did trial the app but didn't turn up all these issues then for several reasons. We actually…

No problem. :) These shots were all from the same time. Just for shits and giggles I also went to the System Manager and verified that the interface speeds listed there matched what was showing up in the graphs and in the node details in the web interface. They all match up. Here you can see that that utilization is…

Trigger when all the following apply Node status is equal to Down Node is critical Trigger when any of the following apply custom_property is not value1 custom_property is empty That appears to work as expected. Good deal. Now if suppression worked the way I wish it would I wouldn't have to duplicate the conditions in the…

The logic isn't usually too bad, it is how the alerting engine interprets the information that is provided that gets tricky. I hadn't thought of adding the "not set" condition. That might just work too. I'll test and report.
-
The "has changed" operator will not work in this case. Is it clarified somewhere in the documentation which operators are valid for different cases?
-
Running NPM 9.1 and I don't have that file. Should it be there?
-
hmmm... I guess I never tried that. I just put in the variables as they are shown in the documentation. I was just using ${RawStatus}, etc... which never worked... Somehow even though I sent the alert text to support they never caught it either. Thanks for the tip.
-
That might explain it. What I saw was that the Foundry switches would typically work for some period of time, but then eventually fail. Typically this occurred sometime within a 4-12 hour span. Most of the devices would simply fail to graph properly in the NPM at that time, while others would be graphed intermittently. Not…

Just Foundry. The majority of our devices do not support v3.

All the devices I tested were v2. I have tested it with Alvarion Breezemax base stations and Eltek Valere DC power systems. Initially I saw it with the Valere, but to verify that it was not some underlying issue with their MIBs (I have had a couple of those) I tried with the Breezemax BTS as well and replicated the issue…
-
Strange since the 95th percentile one doesn't have any such errors and I simply took that, removed the max combined, and added a single where clause to keep the load down a bit.
-
Has anyone come up with a way to do this? I am looking for something similar. I don't need to keep historical versions, but would like the actual date range of the report included instead of the generic "Last Month" both to simplify use for our staff and to ensure that the date range being presented is accurate. Is this…

SQL Server 2005 on the same box

I can't comment on APM or Traps as I don't use either. But I wouldn't have a complaint with the overall reliability or stability of Orion NPM it has its problems but has come a hell of a long way since we first installed the product in 2003. I would say that 95% of products out today have some sort of problem with them…
-
Your list is long, and quite possibly well founded. You sound like you know what you're talking about, and since I do very little with traps I'll have to take your word for all the issues you're having with that. I can certainly confirm the bug you're seeing with APM 2.0, even with SP2. As for this issue however.. For some…

Thanks. I'll take a look at that too. I don't necessarily need to know the size of the arp table, but the number of requests per second. We have some DSL modems that are flooding the network with ARP requests and are theoretically causing issues with other services due to contention for CPU cycles. In the end I set up a…

Trigger Alert when all of the following apply Node Status is equal to Down Trigger Alert when any of the following apply custom_property1 is equal to value1 custom_property1 is eaual to value2 Suppression is a bit misleading when you first run into it, unfortunately. I think it should be expanded to handle this type of…

The high points are the same. If you look at the cacti graph each horizontal line is 20mbps so the peak is around 180M for both. It is all the spurious low readings that concern me. I configured the devices to use 64 bit counters and will have to monitor them for a few days and see but that could very well be the issue.
-
Hmm... I didn't think of that, but could very well be. I create all my interface graphs in cacti with 64 bit counters by default. If I allow 64 bit counters does that take effect immediately?
-
Thanks. I did disable it now. In my mind if I delete an account it should *never* be added back in, at least not without notification. My two cents.
-
Thanks, added the ID. Are these updates included in the next service pack, or how are they distributed?
-
Thanks, that is just what I am looking for.

Where are the little browse to, telnet to, secure shell to, etc buttons stored? Could this be modified to be placed there?
