Hi Pradeep, glad to hear you're pleased with SRM 6.2 Beta working with SVC 7.4. We're excited too! I'll have my engineers review the technical question regarding job engine worker threads. I think they will respond tomorrow. I'll forward this to them to make sure they see it.

pieterbs,On your first question. Based on your description, I believe you are right. Regarding why this happened: You might want to buy a lottery ticket tonight. :-) You've touched a rare weakness in our hashing algorithm. While rare overall, there's a chance your environment has a greater proclivity for a hashing…

I just spent a bit talking to support and architecture. Don't have a sure answer yet. Could you open a ticket with support so we can start gathering more info? Thanks!

non-storage waits. I.e. You may not be storage hamstrung

There is not a free version of 9.0 at this time. But you can still download the free version of 8.3 at Download Database Monitor | SolarWinds

We are actively working on the ability to register and un-register databases for monitoring via script. I'm not clear on your follow-up question about creating a user... Perhaps you would like to have a call to discuss?

I suggest monitoring SQLAgent and for failed SQLAgent jobs. There are some errors you could monitor for that indicate corruption. Error 823, 824 and 832. Here are some links that may help. https://thwack.solarwinds.com/docs/DOC-172597?p=26…

Can you elaborate on what you would expect such a solution to look like? Are you meaning some custom metrics?
-
Great question golge_man! We typically distinguish them by saying that SAM and AppInsight for SQL are system health oriented and Database Performance Analyzer is focused on query performance. There is some overlap in specific features. In some cases, you can get specific metrics from each of them but don't let that fool…

Hello, I checked with support and they suspect this (SolarWinds Knowledge Base :: Alert Notifications) may help. We wonder if your notifications are set incorrectly. My support agent says he suspects it's set to "STATUS_NOT_VISITED" and if it isn't changing, you won't get notified. You may want to set it to…

mos, That's a great question. I see the value of your idea very clearly. I don't have an answer just yet but I'm checking on this now.
-
mushtaq.ali, I suggest you open a case with support. We'll need a look to know for sure what is happening, however off the cuff, I am suspicious of a server time zone mix up. Perhaps you have a machine in the wrong time zone?
-
How many CPU cores does your instance have? And the server it's on? I've seen near idle SQL Servers show a lot of signal wait under various circumstances but the common thread is... pun intended... threads. How many are there for SQL to use vs how many would be needed to keep up with runnable queries. Difficult to answer…

Have you considered this Server Application Monitor (SAM) template for Analysis Services? ==> SQL Server 2012 Analysis Services

Hi Ralph, Good question. I wonder if this post has the information that you need regarding differences and roadmap. If not, happy to get you any details that it's lacking. Dreams Come True - Storage on Orion is now in Release Candidate!
-
The focus of DPA 9.2 was integration with Orion to produce a tool that facilitated collaboration and sharing among IT silos to solve application performance problems that may relate to database performance. All the features for this release are in the Orion interface. Below is a quote from a customer that perfectly…

Hi cmartin2. There is a custom report posted at the following thwack link that may be what you need. Let me know if you have any questions. Custom Report - Top SQL for Database User

There's an option to store more of the SQL Text, but it can seriously increase the size of your repository. From your instance on the dashboard, click "Action" > "Advanced Options" > click the "Support Options" checkbox > Scroll down to "SQLTEXT_SQLSERVER_MAX_TEXT_LENGTH". You can increase that from the default of 7999.…

It's not that simple. There's probably 5 or 6 tables involved and it would not be supported. That said, I will add this as a feature request because I see there is a valuable use case here.

As a SQL Server DBA, my preference is to set a limit on memory SQL Server can use to keep a good chunk of memory available. If you are not paging, you are just not feeling pain yet. You could prevent the pain by setting a reasonable limit on what memory SQL Server can use. High memory utilization in and of it's self isn't…

It's not something we publish but I'll follow up with you offline to see what we can do.

Hi Joe. I'm a Product Manager for Database Performance Analyzer. I'm sorry for the frustration you've had. I will reach out to you on a private channel. I'd like to help you.
-
If your SQL Server only allows Windows Authentication then that could cause this DPA behavior. If not, I'd like you to open a support ticket so we can dig in.
-
Hi ha tran, I'm not sure what you're asking. Are you asking why you are asked to specify 2 users, one in step 2 and another in step 3? The answer is that the user specified in step 2 needs to have permission to create a database. The user in step 3 just needs to connect to the database that was created.
-
Below is a link that is a bit more detailed. More succinctly put, AppInsight can show you what pain SQL Server feels from the perspective of performance counters. DPA is more focused on the end user perspective, specifically how long they are waiting for query results. DPA can tie this wait time to performance counters in…

This is a great feature request. I've submitted it here >> https://thwack.solarwinds.com/ideas/5052

Thanks for reaching out to us dkoth. I encourage you to vote for the following feature requests. We use feature request votes to determine what to include in new releases. I can tell you that Availability Groups are on our mind when we do release planning. But of course there's almost always more on our mind that we can…

Hi kaushikpathak. I'm the Product Manager for Storage at Solarwinds. Thank you for this note. As LubomirKrausko said, we will discuss this.

Some screenshots should help. We should check that instances are licensed. Do you get any error message when trying to start the monitor via the GUI? You can do so from the home page. Notice that a down monitor has a blue down arrow. Hovering over it provides an opportunity to start it.

Sorry for not seeing this sooner. I think you may have posted this in the wrong forum. Which product are you needing assistance with?
