  • Will this break the next time the Config Wizard is run?
  • Doing both could help. Moving most, if not all, of the polling to the APEs will help, and if you have a large number of users, directing them through the additional web server would help as well,
  • If it were up to me, I would elevate the Improved Install/Upgrade task to the top of the list. That aspect of SolarWinds has long been much too lengthy and redundant. Just my opinion. The other one that excites me is the Importing nodes along with custom properties since it would presumably merge two existing features and…
  • Interesting that you say you installed an APE with the "all in one installer". I installed a new instance of the latest versions of 8 apps this week and opted to use the individual APE installers rather than the Bundle because the description for the Bundle says that it is for "versions 2016.1 and older". So, SolarWinds,…
  • Rob, Very interested in seeing this. Let me know when you have openings.
  • How would one limit this report to a certain time period - for example the last calendar month? Great work by the way. Thanks.
  • What form would this consulting take? Onsite? Remote? Through this forum?
  • Update please. Is this still only a feature request? I have used Kiwi CatTools in the past and would like to migrate the config files I have there to NCM. Is this possible? Thanks you.
  • I can't answer the question about availability, but I do know that the StatusInfo table in the database lists Unreachable as StatusId 12.
  • No one knows huh? Hmmmm....
  • You could create a map with custom icons to match those in the reference. The map background would be a stencil of the switch with the custom icons superimposed over the appropriate port.
  • Any resource or historical data associated with a deleted node is cleaned from the database via the Daily Maintenance procedures, though it may take more than one cycle. Hope this answers you question.
  • I think it is best to set the polls per second to the value recommended plus or minus one or two units. Orion calculates this value based on the number of elements you are monitoring and the intervals for status and statistics collection that are currently set. The resulting value is the number of polls per second that…
  • If you designate a Group as a parent, then it is the status of the Group that determines when the Child is reachable or not. For example, if you create a group that contains 2 tandem routers as the gate way to a remote site, then that child site is accessible as long as one of the routers in the parent group is up. So, you…
  • Well, the short answer is to go to this link and look for the 12 minute video on using the Universal Device Poller (UnDP). It is a good introduction to the basics. http://www.solarwinds.com/support/tutorials.aspx It should answer most of your questions. Also, if you go the to the Content Exchange section of Thwack, you…
  • Have you tried either the Report Scheduler tool or the Email a Web Page alert action? The Report Scheduler runs on the SOlarWinds server and allows one to use the Task Scheduler on the server to email or print any web page by referencing the URL. If you need to do this as part of an alert, you may have the alert email the…
  • You will need to construct an advanced SQL report since I don't think this is included in any out-of-the-box report I can find in Orion. Start by opening an existing report in Report Writer - such as Current Status of each Node (or any other report as a starting point). Go to the Select Fields tab and delete any fields…
  • I'm not sure that is possible, but ou could add a user defined link to the details view of the device then configure the link with the IP address of the node and the port for the application you want to open. Would that work for you ?
  • Just curious, but can you give an example or two of reports that you have tried?
  • Great question. Anyone?
  • There are a couple of ways to do this - one easy and the other not so easy sepending on your knowledge of SQL query syntax. If you go to File--> Open and select any of the "historical" report types, the Time Frame tab is added automatically. On the other hand, if you want to perform some special date or time frame work,…
  • If you don't mind another option, if the report was created with the Report Writer 32 bit tool or if you can write it in SWQL, you could display it directly in a web view using the "Report from Report Writer" or the "Custom Query" resources. That way, the report would automatically generate a fresh version each time the…
  • This can be done easily if the Group is defined using a dynamic query. The query can look for just about anything including node name, IP address, vendor, etc. You could also use a custom property so that if you define those custom properties as the node is added to the database for the first time, the query will…
  • Did the windows guy run the License Manager to deactivate Orion on the server before installing on the VM? If not, just download License Manager from your customer portal and install it on the physical server. When yoy run it, you will be able to de-activate Orion and free the license up to install on the VM.
  • That delay seems like it could be a multiple of the default status polling interval of 2 minutes (if you are using that value). Check to see if the alert trigger has a delay of 8 minutes configured. It could also be partly due to simple process delay.
  • Did you associate the link with the node or the interface on the node?
  • There are two options to get his done. Limit the view or limit the user. If you limit the View, then any user using that view will see the limitation. But, if you add an Account Limitation to the user account settings, you can select a single Group or a Group of Groups. Then, that user will only see those Groups in the All…
  • The Audit Events report should show that information. There are several Alert related events that are listed in the AuditingActionTypes table of the database. Changes to alerts is one of them.
  • If I understand your request, it sounds like all you need to do is configure a basic alert and on the "Action" tab configure the "play a sound" option. Then, pick the sound fuile that you want the Orion server to play.
  • Topology polling, if available, is enabled on the List Resources page for the Node.
