We have had great success with tools like OpenDCIM for data center rack and patch panel inventory, then there is always wireshark that works great.

I feel bad about the people of China having social credits but then with as large as their population is I can see it preventing chaos in many situations.

Why health insurers track when you buy plus-size clothes or binge-watch TV Creepy Stuff! I can't imagine being a young person now and everything that you ever said and did on social media is kept somewhere forever, then finding out your rates for insurance are higher because of something stupid you did in middle school.…

Understand Data Flows and Paths I did that as a full time job for several years. In addition to security we also looked at QOS policies, network usage, and optimization. We also had firewalls on both ends of every WAN circuit and everything was encrypted point to point.

Our auditors gleamed some of their data from Solarwinds. A lot of work went into setting up the reports the first time but once set up they could be run on demand. We sat down with the auditors semi-annually and covered any requirements that were new or had changed and modified the reports to reflect the requirements. Like…

I would if I could. The code doesn't belong to me though - it's my employers

Looking forward to the section "Installation and Discovery – I’ll write about installing and discovering my lab" I have not tried the discovery function before.

You can get the exact opposite as well, when you have a group that's only interaction is through tickets/requests. They won't answer emails, phone calls, or even help you in person unless it goes through the ticketing system. In the end you need ask their management to get it done. Back 'in the day' we used to use this…

My team takes care of everything for all of our data centers and remote closets. While some of the closets are a bit messy the main data centers are as clean as the day they were built. Only my immediate team members are allowed to do any cable work, install equipment, etc and anyone going into the data centers needs a…

European parliament votes to scrap daylight saving time from 2021 Probably should scrap it in the US as well. Some states use it and some don't. Some like Indiana have part of the state that is 'in' and part opted 'out'. Supposedly it saves energy.

Thanks for the write up. I especially like these Mentoring will likely teach you more than your student. Nobody is a teacher, everybody is a student.

My worst nightmare ever, far worse than a computer meltdown was when I used to care for 'everything electronic' in a large office building. The break room TV broke so I went online and ordered another one first thing in the morning, no big deal.... ....Until about 2:30pm when about half of the office missed their daily…

I've been doing a lot of research on solar panels for my home recently. While I wouldn't be able to fully power my home in the winter months I think I would be able to run mostly off the panels in the summer months.

Please address CVE-2021-25275 ASAP. I opened support case# Case # 00732845 NVD - CVE-2021-25275 (nist.gov) I am fighting an uphill battle trying to get Management and Security to buy in to letting us re-install your product.

Thanks for the write up. I'm currently trying to recreate something similar to the All Active Alerts resource but one that includes custom notes so the NOC can provide updates as to what is being done with the ticket. It will also need to include execute alert action as an optional button so they can review the event prior…

I'm heading to Venezuela to unplug. There is no internet.... or cell service... or power... They have awesome sunfish there

Awesome and thanks! I'm working on a custom view for our NOC to display on one of their big screens to show the nodes that are down and some of the custom properties as well as giving them the ability to use the notes field when a node isn't going to be fixed right away for shift turnover.
