I am as we speak trying to kick off a "crowd-sourced" monitoring workshop within my company and as jswan points out there are just too many topics and intricacies to assume everyone walks away a data geek. Rather then Orwellian as ghostinthenet ruminates, data is just another tool to describe our surroundings. Drawing an…

How do I reconcile which documentation resource to point people to? Orion Network Performance Monitor Documentation or Network Performance Monitor (NPM) - Updated July 13, 2015 (Thwack NPM Product Forum > Documentation)

all excellent tips. I would say the number one thing we do to lessen the alert noise is to alert at the correct level of object. By that I mean rather then keep the out of the box alerts for application components we disable those and add the field {components with problems} to our alert action email. This way we get one…

Jiri, Will it clean up and drop the NCM DB? Can I safely remove it once the installer has migrated the data?
-
Late to the party but this was bugging me as well - the workaround I was told is to delete all the volumes from the list resources module - then go into the manage nodes section, click the + next the node and delete any phantom volumes there. From there go back to the node details, list resources, and add all the volumes…

when will NCM help me with my color constancy issues?

I am joining the sonar discovery camp and attempting to use them for everything now. The filter is better then before but still so lacking in persistence that I had to take the approach of just letting it bring in everything then delete on the backend. Not my preferred method at all but I wanted to try and use discoveries…

I'm really glad you asked - just looked and found out it was written on our 10.7 beta site which literally *just* got blown away. I would have forgotten completely. Let's see if it's still fresh enough to remember and rewrite...

hire for ability grow into position. I wish we had better apprenticeship programs but that's what good references from past employees are for.

When you add the all nodes tree ajax resource then click edit you will see the option below - when we see an unknown group we know nodes have not been placed in a group. Put nodes with null values for the grouping property: In the [Unknown] group At the bottom of the list, in no group
-
I tested with a user and did not have this result. Def contact support.

Voted up as this is a huge issue! Engineers will see a drive letter under a node and assume all is fine, meanwhile it's reflecting it's old values and not that it's not responding unless you dig deeper. I have had to add a resource so these orphan volumes are more visible at the summary level (additional benefit is it…

The groups are nested and based on custom properties dynamic properties drop those groups into atlas usual

Sorry for the delayed response: if you have not already gotten it- ToLocal(v.lastsync) will convert utc to your local web server time. If you read the SDK PDF it lists the correct syntax for date and time manipulation.

SWIS schema is a bookmark of mine- it's included in the SDK- are you referring to a schema or mapping?
-
upvote as I care about both node up (ICMP) and the ability to poll volumes, interfaces, etc (SNMP) and we need better visibility into when the later is unreachable.

I liked what NCM was doing for our switches so much that i've cobbled together a simple SAM powershell monifor which reads in a server Config file, could also be xml or even DB tables, diffs it against the last copy saved and if any lines are changed makes a backup of it. Next phase I hope to add in commiting the file into…

first few days have been informative. Reminds me of the Brent Ozar sql training emails. I spent the first 8 of my 10 sensor agents on my Solarwinds Orion servers and it's been a good experience since I know the platform well. Great for getting baselines

This is available now under account limitation builder in the SW app folder. I use a custom property as an account limitation but would like to see the ability to choose a NULL or empty value as in if the field is not filled out then they can/not see it. Remember when adding nodes by discovery or other then individually…

I've seen and liked the incident concept but in our case we do that in ServiceNow. Today I report on parent objects and join child to minimize counts of alerts. For example reporting on volumes or apps on a node so we only get one alert no matter how many objects alert. Plenty of downsides though. Later this year I hope…

You are brave to even attempt this- joins on custom pollers is where I call the friendly DBA in

rob.hock - I'll give it a spin - specifically at this point I am looking for the blade serial number. Any movement at all though working with Cisco to provide more health since they as of yet do not provide a health agent per blade?
-
FInding NCM easy to deploy and configure all its features. I do hope that the inventory module expands to support more then just snmp calls so it can be populated someday by API data such as Cisco UCS or such. Then we could use the config templates as a front-end change request provisioning tool.

I expected AWS health events to come from cloudwatch events through SQS and into Splunk but they never came - likely due to underlying S3 outage itself. Sooooo guess what I get to build? An AWS health API to Solarwinds integration followed by an integration into ServiceNow since I don't trust the cloudwatch path now.…

Check that the SysObjectID listed is correct for that node and then report to SW as a possible bug or request.

I already have this today with another ticketing system!! SUrprised WHD hasn't done the resource for this

Not sure why I retyped that - I forgot that and the alert was here: Re: Cisco UCS | Advice on configuring alerts Not sure that SQL:Select will work now in web-based alert console. Pull a power supply and let me know

I think this has devolved into a who has the smallest cube thread and I like it. Except I just cube hopped and gained enough space for my 3 monitors so I'll loose. Where's that photo I had of the cube I shared with someone…
