This is quite possibly a problem with the aggravating permissions settings on Scheduled Tasks in your Windows Control Panel. The permissions settings are way too numerous and annoyingly (did I mention aggravating?) system/install-specific to list out here. I would start by going to your Scheduled Tasks control panel item…

No, sorry. I still use Cacti for a lot of this type of graphing. Even though it's a pain in the a** to configure, it's much prettier and much more configurable. Custom polling needs a lot of work, such as the suggestions above, being able to manually set values such as upper limit, lower limit, scale, and units.

The problem turned out to be that while the node IPs were in VMM, I'm not sure the collection agent was configured. I ended up removing the nodes from VMM and adding them back in again and reconfiguring the collection agent.

Thanks, Peter. I figured it out. I forgot that the Downtime Simulator would provide me the alerts that would be triggered. Seems an old setting got the better of me - my alerts for this particular group were set to go off after three failures rather than at the very first one. Thanks again!
-
Then how does Orion do it? Orion shows the date in MM/DD/YYYY.

Thanks, @tdanner. I updated it and now I'm getting another message: "Update or insert of view or function 'dbo.AlertStatusView' failed because it contains a derived or constant field." Do I have the right info here? There are so many Alert related schema tables, I am not sure which one is the right one to try and use.

Might not be the exact problem, but I've seen this happen to bandwidth reporting numbers when the interface is unabled to be fully polled for whatever reason. The DB inserts '-2' as the value. While the interface shows that it is operational, certain stats can't be "gotten" by Orion. In my case, it was due to polling…

You can do this in a Basic Alert, but not in an Advanced Alert. I knew I saw this in Orion once. I don't use Basic Alerts anymore, so it didn't dawn on me to even look there. And, to keep piling on (don't you just love this Feature Request forum?): * Ability to assign a custom view to a specific node. This can sort of be…

Concerning request #9, that should work today. As long as both pollers are assigned to the node(or interface) you should be able to do that. Are you talking about unrelated pollers? Something that may help, we support using the various ${} macros, including {$SQL: } ones. I was not aware of the ${SQL:} ability, so I'll…

Sorry to keep heaping it on, but I came across something else today which may be on the list already. * Ability to filter by interface type during node addition.

Funny, I know this is three months after your post, but I just came back to this issue and noticed you are doing the exact same thing - trying to get BGP peer state. I wonder if there is an issue with getting NCM actions to run while using a custom table poller alert? I did find out from Support on another unrelated case…

I'm sorry to say that performing the upgrade to 6.3.1 and patching VIM did not seem to resolve the problem. I am going ahead with opening a ticket.
-
Ok, looks like I need to upgrade. Hopefully that's the issue. Thanks!

There is an option to remove from a group, which is located under the delete button. Does this functionality help you accomplish what you need? Yes, it sure does. I have noticed that my procedure has to change slightly, since I'm unable to add monitors to a group based upon a filter result. I now have to go into the group…

This is happening to me, but I'm trying to upgrade to version 10. When I attempt to uninstall the NCM Plugins via Add/Remove Programs, a DOS window pops up for about a half a second and then disappears and the plugins remain.

Hi, I always disable this, but that is not the intent of my original post, which has since been answered completely in another thread. For clarity, what I had been doing prior to 12.x was editing the InterfaceDetails.aspx page and remove the link to the device to which the interface was attached. For example, near the top…

I've verified all this. I'm able to edit the named.conf file and all files in the bind directory, I've created a file in /tmp to verify write access, and I'm able to SSH in remotely from the Orion server. I've also verified that the user account can run all the commands shown in the documentation. One thing I will mention…

Well, seeing's how this case is almost a year and a half old, I don't need it answered any more. I'm not even running 9.5 anymore.

Also think I might have found another problem. We have several nodes that we didn't assign any interfaces on it. They're blinking grey now saying that an interface is in an unknown state, how can that be if there are no interfaces being monitored? I just noticed that we, too, have nodes with grey blinkies. Seems like they…

I opened case #694985 and found that the support tech created the same poller, and it worked, but he used the 'Interface names from Orion' option, while I had set the label to use a different column in the table. I ended up changing it to 'Interface' and the alert started working. Thanks for this! Do you think this is a…

I've already said that I have actually tried both ways - setting the numeric value and setting the enumerated value and neither works reliably. I cannot seem to get alerting working for any custom pollers at all and it's very frustrating. What happens is this: I can see in the Alert Manager "Active Alerts" window that the…

SW can correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that if you set your trigger up to alert if a device is in 'Unknown' status, this will do the trick. If a device is unpingable, then it will show up as 'Down', but if it is pingable and cannot be polled for whatever reason, it goes into 'Unknown' status. At least, this is what…

The node variables are not available from within an alert that is configured as a Custom Node Table Poller alert. They are available in other types of alerts, but not all macros are available in all types of alerts. See: Group member alert If you use the macros that are not available, all you get in your alerts are the…

I applied a hot fix to resolve this issue and all seems to be working fine now.

I've been asking for this for years from Solarwinds. One thing that you can do, if your type of environment supports it, is to change the file permissions on the "NodeDetails.aspx" file so that only certain users on the operating system itself can see the file. Again, this may not work in your implementation. That said, I…

Unfortunately, I have no other choice. I always make a backup copy of any file I edit for Orion, so I would hope that if I mess something up, I could just replace it with the original.

Well, I know I've brought it up before and I was told that perhaps MRTG and RRDTool should "change the way they do it". I cannot for the life of me figure out why the colors are backwards when every bandwidth graph I've ever looked at for the past 15 years has been green inbound and blue outbound. I understand that at this…
