The Alerting service was indeed down - silently so, and apparently due to "time travel" of our SW server. To quote SW support (highlighting mine): If your server was not involved in any kind of time travelling, it is possible that the server time was different for a short time when the Alerting service started and it was…

Tried setting up and testing a basic alert. When clicking on "test alerts"... got this: Not sure what to think. It then displayed a "Test Fire Alerts" dialog box, and the test was successful. So... basic alerts work, advanced - don't. What's next?

SolarWinds Knowledge Base :: Using Gmail to send Orion alert emails) says, among other things: * Log on to your SolarWinds server using an account with adminstrative (sic) privileges. * Click Start > All Programs > SolarWinds Orion > Alerting, Reporting, and Mapping > Advanced Alert Manager. * Click Configure Alerts. Am I…

A Windows Server 2008 R2 (Hyper-V VM) with virtually identical configuration is being polled just fine by SAM, and it doesn't even have to have an exemption for WMI in the firewall: I hope this is something simple...

Version 11.0.2100.60 dated 8/30/2013 2:58:30 PM. (We run Orion 2014.1.0, SAM 6.1.1 according to the bottom of the web console although SAM 6.1.1 shows as an available update in "Product Updates Available".) That means the hotfix is not mandatory and there's no benefit installing it, correct?

Bump... I see that I am not the only one having an issue: Orion NPM monitor Mac OS X Say, I have two OSX (10.6.8 but it doesn't really matter) Macs (xServes); one is reporting CPU/mem, the other one isn't. snmpd.conf files are identical. What do I need to do to enable CPU/mem polling on the handicapped machine? Is this…

A related, hopefully, question: what do the bars in the chart represent? Total bytes transferred within the timeframe that bar covers? Or average number of bytes transferred per hour? If that's the case, I should take the above chart as, "bytes transferred" from 6:00 to 11:59 on March 18 were 7TB total. Yet if I zoom in on…

aLTeReGo's answer on Assistance Needed with Windows Monitors was the answer for my case: Windows Performance Counters use RPC for communication which runs over TCP port 445. Once you add this rule to the firewall these components should come up. ... however opening port 445 is equivalent to enabling the stock "File and…

Test Fire Alert won't log anything as a "triggered alert" - and that's by design. "Triggered alert" is supposed to be a current condition, and if it's not current (like in case of a test, or of it gets reset / cleared) - then there's no entry in the "Triggered Alerts" log. "Events" will show it, both the trigger event, and…

For the record, there are two NPMEventLog alerts because I added one just now, in case the 1st one got corrupted somehow. Figured, won't hurt.

It took about 30 minutes for the hardware health to get into "unknown" mode but eventually it did. My "Default Node Statistics Poll Interval" is 10 minutes. Based on that (and Hardware Health Polling Rate), is it supposed to take 30+ minutes to trigger my alert?

The only place in OWC (that I see) where it says the volume is down is on mouseover in the list of disk volumes: On "up" volumes the header background is green, "down" - red.

What does each bar in the "Total Bytes Transferred" chart mean? Total bytes transferred within the timeframe that bar covers? (In the above chart, that'd be 7TB over the span of six hours.) Or average number of bytes transferred per hour? If the latter, does it make the chart's title misleading? The answer is actually…

Submitted a support request to Solarwinds Support. Their response: Re: Update for Case #1209887 - "failed with "unknown" status' - Windows PowerShell Monitor." Hi, Since the powershell monitor is a custom script we do not support the writing of the custom script. We do have some pointers on how the system must be…

It appears Net-SNMP implementation on Linux incorrectly reports large capacity volumes. Linux snmpwalks of two SAN volumes, 90 and 600TB respectively: HOST-RESOURCES-MIB::hrStorageAllocationUnits.39 = INTEGER: 65536 Bytes<br />HOST-RESOURCES-MIB::hrStorageAllocationUnits.40 = INTEGER: 65536 Bytes<br…

Me too, except interface alerts did not work at all on 11.0. On 11.5 they're look like this: -----Original Message----- From: NPM [mailto:solarwinds@***.com] Sent: Tuesday, April 21, 2015 7:36 PM To: *** Subject: Interface eth1 on mdc2 changed to Up Interface eth1 on mdc2 changed to Up at 3/28/2015 8:44:00 PM I.e. these…
