This is similar to another need we have - we'd like the local login options to be available if you are connected to the console or through a secured backdoor, and then only present our SAML (with MFA) to the regular Orion login.

Can I piggy-back on this a little and expand it? One thing that constantly throws me is that I can't search for applications by name in the menu search bar. For example, we have a monitored instance of "Sonatype Nexus," that I created a custom application monitor for. If I search for "Nexus," I get the server it is…

Nice to see this roll out after hearing about it at THWACKcamp! Watching the introductory video, it was kind of surprising to me to see how many of the views, layouts, and other things really did just look like Orion. The mix of traditional and modern dashboards was noticeable, but things like PerfStack and maps looked…

I very much would like to see this as well. Any time we install patches, the system believes it has missed quite a few pings on our servers. It takes about 10-15 minutes for the system to collect enough polling information for the Packet Loss average to drop down to a state that doesn't consider the server as "down."
-
@"sturdyerde" Can you elaborate on this recommendation a bit more? I'm not terribly familiar with reverse proxies, but I know our infrastructure team is implementing MFA in front of things like our Office 365 and our VPN. I'd love to increase the security of our Orion instance to allow it to be internet facing.

Man, I was just wondering if this feature request was already out there! It sucks that it's all or nothing with auto-deps. I would love it if there was a "suggestion" mode, where the system would present you with a list of dependencies it found or otherwise suspects exist, and you could - from that menu - apply them,…

Good Gosh that sounds like a headache! I was an observer on my personal life's forums (penny arcade) getting moved to Vanilla, and that seemed like a pain and a half... and they don't have nearly the gamification that is here. As long as the people remain and the content is accurate, I'm sure everything will be fine.…

Thank you so much @"john.maxwell" -- I admit I've had my head down for the last year and haven't been keeping up with licensing costs and elements since our proof of concept in early 2019. I greatly appreciate the in-depth reply. At the end of the day, the decision to go with DPA or not lies with our database…
-
I'm going to be blunt: The licensing is probably the #1 reason why we don't have DPA. We evaluated it with the rest of Orion, to see if it would help... and we found it would be useful, but it would just cost too much to deploy it. Our particular environment has MS SQL, Oracle Sql, MySQL, and a smattering of PostgreSQL..…

I forgot to mention in the original ticket that there is a lot of discussion on the demise of third party cookies in browsers, and how that will break single logout. Ideally Solarwinds would have some kind of solution for this, that either supports back-channel communications, or would otherwise be flexible enough to let…

Hah! Had a little bit of fun there. My old password was 21 characters long, so when I tried to enter it it yelled at me. Then when I tried to put it back it errored a little bit. I think I've edited it and gotten in safely and updated my password manager to support 20 characters, but I found the whole process interesting.

Anything on this? Over the weekend we experienced some issues with our Openshift environment, and now I'm getting questions about whether we should be monitoring our environment with Orion vs. AppOptics. I'd really like some guidance on how Solarwinds recommends approaching this.
-
This is going to sound silly or basic, but I am an app admin not familiar with the internal workings of my sysadmins equipment, and they are swamped. What snmp do I point at and where is it configured? Get Outlook for Android

@"cnorcross" This is perfect! Well.. kind of. It looks like it doesn't auto-add new objects, but it's definitely a start. Would you be willing to share your API query? right now I'm just looking at the example ( /api/v1/query?query=up) and I'm wondering if there is a way to pull out specific data. My integrations team…

Bumping this up. I just discovered that this is an issue for us. we don't have many physical servers left, and will be using SRM to monitor our SANs... But to not know the health of our disks is disappointing. ESPECIALLY as we just installed Solarwinds on physical Dell servers!
-
Our WEB folks bought AppOptics a while back and have been using it to monitor our main websites and a few vital things we have here and there. They are using PHP and NGINX, so the integration isn't terribly useful for us at the moment, but I'm quite looking forward to the integration being expanded. We were planning on…
-
When we first purchased SRM, we were running on a Dell Confluence environment that.. really didn't work with SRM. Now, we're investigating Hyper-converged architecture, as well as spinning up a large Ceph instance. More and more of our apps are going to be running on this environment. Are there any plans to support this?
-
It looks like the AppOptics is working towards Prometheus integrations, which is awesome. https://docs.appoptics.com/kb/host_infrastructure/integrations/tested/prometheus/ However, right now the only Orion and AppOptics integration is for IIS. While it might cost us a little more, if push comes to shove having AppOptics…

We're just getting started with Solarwinds, and are very excited! But at the same time, we are moving our integrations engine from JBoss Fuse ESB to OpenShift. Currently, our integrations folks have set up some Prometheus/Grafana monitoring, which is okay... but we'd like to have full visibility into the integrations…

I was just looking for this. While we have some dedicated databases, many of our database environments (especially the Oracle ones) share database instances. I am thinking about implementing a "Service" custom property into Nodes, applications, transactions, and a few other places to help group our services together, and I…

Done. Reading the tea leaves, it sounds like Solarwinds is looking for that final gap of alerting that isn't really handled well in Orion? We've been agonizing over this very subject because right now we're just using custom properties and a cheap emailtovoice solution. I'd like to look at PagerDuty, but working for a…

Just saw this. Why isn't this a thing? I'm making a modified version of the IIS template and I want to add an HTTPS monitor to it, and to help remind people in the future to configure it right, I wanted to give it a name like "[PLACEHOLDER] - HTTPS Monitor." But because that is on the base template, I can't rename it. I…

This is REALLY cool. At first I tried to implement it with the modern dashboard, but it seems you can't customize your search in there (or at least I couldn't find a way to). However, when I went back and made a classic view, it worked like a breeze.

It feels like I spent literally all afternoon working on this, when I probably didn't need to.. But hey, best to pass my information onto others. Especially as Observability is coming, and agents will become more common. Baseline: Environment info. Solarwinds Orion + SAM, 2020.4 OS: Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8.1 Agent:…

Thanks again to everyone who has chimed in so far, both here and in the related thread I opened: https://thwack.solarwinds.com/product-forums/server-application-monitor-sam/f/forum/93231/how-do-i-find-unknown-apps-in-the-connection-monitor-widget I'm finding more and more evidence that a spike in WmiPrivSE.exe is what is…
-
I had not! But that makes a ton of sense, especially when it comes to "Catching" what is using these! We've been fairly shy about making new alerts so far, to avoid making the system too complex. We've especially avoided one-offs. But this could likely do the trick.
-
Awesome, thanks for the explanation! I'll use my template to get some basic info for now, and then switch over to those.

Okay, so digging through this a bit and comparing yours to the one I made with the automated tools.. Thanks! For now I've just thrown in the main service, the processes it generated (Job engine, logging engine, and the agent process itself), and I'm letting data collect. I didn't go for the individual job engine process threads because I figured those would be too noisy. I'll compare notes. :)

This is what I was figuring I'd need to do. It just gives me pause to not see a template out there already. Is this just not something people do?
