All of the unknown interfaces in my environment are either duplicates of actual interfaces on devices or are "Unknown" because SNMP has failed at some level. I have no idea why the duplicates show up. Granted I have never been too concerned with it. I just wanted to add my situation to this thread.

NPM needs to go first as it's home base for a lot of these modules. Then i would do NCM as it creates it's own database as well. After that, I don't believe that there is any real particular order that these applications need to be installed in.

I have updated my NPM to 9.5.1 and also updates SQL 2k5 to SP3. It's been a week no without any failures. This is great news as it hasn't gone this long without a reboot since rollout.
