familyofcrowes, SAM already includes an SSL Certificate Expiration Monitor that doesn't rely on scripts. setorres feature request is to add additional information to this component monitor type, such as the Certificate Name and Issued To field information of the certificate being used by the web server.

What are the make/model of the devices/servers being monitored by SAM? Has Asset Inventory been enabled on those nodes? Lastly, what is the node polling method being used for these servers? (WMI/SNMP)

We have tried reproducing this issue internally without success. If you're willing, please send me your SolarWinds.Administration.Client.log and Solarwinds.Administration.log files so we can determine why this occurred.
-
Have you considered using Web Performance Monitor (WPM)?

george.subnet wrote: Thanks for the guide, I was wondering if you could help with the issue i'm experiencing when I try to remove the pool - it says the pool cannot be deleted because the other node needs to be the active one. It also mentions an issue with the Licensing because the main server is 'completely down' the…

It is in fact possible to alert on the status of a database, as shown below.

If you are running SAM and NPM on the same server, you will need to upgrade to the NPM 10.7 Release Candidate prior to installing the SAM 6.1 RC.

deverts wrote: adatole , As always, great series of posts! I would like to ask one questions however. There are lots of awesome examples just like this one posted by all the talented folks out there, but when a Head Geek has to take out of there creative schedules to blog about stuff like this it seems a little "odd." I…

The primary benefit of Events is that there's an excellent history of when an alert triggered, and when it reset by default. It's also easier to parse programmatically IMHO. Each event has an associated event type, making it relatively easy to filter on the event types you're interested in, while excluding those you are…

That's the idea for SOAP. JSON however will likely be extending the functionality of the existing HTTP/HTTPS User Experience Monitors.

SUPER GEEEEEEK!!!!!!

I can't provide a time frame other than to say it will be available sometime this year. Sorry I can't be more specific. You can signup now to participate in the SAM 5.2 beta if you'd like to play with this new feature. We'd love to get your feedback

We can't comment on release dates but we should have a beta available soon.
-
Have you considered adding the Availability resource itself to the report instead of using the custom chart resource? That should provide you the ability to define longer periods of time in the chart.

Polling is on a regular scheduled interval, which is ideal for long term performance trending and analysis. It's not however ideal for real-time troubleshooting. When you're in the act of putting out a 5 alarm blaze, you need information as close to real-time as possible. That's as big of a hint as you're getting I'm…

This can be monitored over SNMP using NPM's Universal Device Poller by polling OID '1.3.6.1.4.1.2021.9.1.10.1'

The reason for this is likely that some Orion products store information in the database in UTC time, such as SAM. While other products like NPM store their information in the database using the local servers time zone. Long term our strategy is to move everything to UTC so we can do things like present data to the user…

Object associations are automagically learned by Orion and can be extended upon using dependencies.

SAM 6.4 (Currently in beta) natively supports the disabling of TLS 1.0 and 1.1, allowing only the use of TLS 1.2.
-
This was implemented in Orion Platform 2018.4 using SAML Authentication.

It's still on the road map but we simply ran out of time in the last release to get to it. We also didn't have enough customer participation to build a large enough database of printers to test against. Keep watching the product blog for more status updates on printers and other hardware support in SAM.

The Linux agent cannot be used in conjunction with SAM 6.2.x. It is indeed a SAM 6.3 specific feature. If you'd like to take SAM 6.3 out for a spin and put the Linux agent through its paces, it can be downloaded from here -> https://thwack.solarwinds.com/thwack-beta.jspa?groupID=1003

Have you considered using the file change monitor? You'll need to update the checksum on a monthly basis as the source file changes but it should otherwise do the trick. I can see where having the source file checksum update automatically might be useful and might be a worthwhile update/revision to this feature request, if…

This can be done today in the Web Based Report Writer by changing the 'Selection method' from 'Dynamic Query Builder' to "Advanced Database Query (SQL, SWQL) as shown below.

nglynn wrote: Are the AppInsight templates the only SAM items that will count as a child item today or will any/all SAM templates/components that are monitored be picked up as a child object? Any application can influence the status of a node. The screenshot I posted above is only a partial listing.

Maybe I need to upgrade my version of ServerView, but I don't believe Fujitsu's own software provides warranty status information. Is hardware health and asset inventory truly the sole features you use SAM for?
-
this is already possible today using the Advanced Alert Manager. You can have these Windows Event Log messages included in Orion Events using the ${WindowsEventMessages} macro.

This can be found under the "Top indexes for Database" component of the assigned application or individual database as pictured below.

The only tangible benefit to 64bit is that a single process can address more than 2GB of ram. It doesn't improve performance in any way. Not unless you have a process that's memory constrained. As you can see below, no single process comes anywhere close to consuming that amount of memory.
