--- If so, how were you able to utilize a "Virtual Host Name" for polling traffic instead of going to the primary poller? Which IP address is used for polling is determined by the operating system, but you have some ability to control this behavior based upon the IP addresses you assign to each machine and the VIP.…

The error in your screenshot is an internal server error (500). Is the menu bar appearing correctly, or are you seeing any broken widget/resources on the page? I would also recommend that you change the website settings to reflect the URL you use to access the Orion web console. [Settings > All Settings > Web Console…

Are you running NTA 4.x with a dedicated Fastbit database server?

* Log in to the server hosting your main polling engine. * Start the Legacy Report Migration Tool. Click Start > All Programs > SolarWinds Orion > Report Writer Migration Tool. * Choose the report(s) to migrate.* To only migrate specific legacy reports, use the Search box to find the reports and select corresponding boxes.…

I agree with Petr's assessment. I would recommend using the Reset Actions to send the email notification when the alert trigger condition is no longer true. This should significantly simplify your alerting while improving its performance and reliability.

But after every failover we have to give the active servers name to access the console. We are using Infoblox as a dns here. And we also put the alias name in infoblox for the primary server but we cant…

If the reachable between both subnets fail, will both Primary and Secondary servers start polling out or how will it be ? In case of receiving traps and netflow on the VIP/dns how it will be ? pratikmehta003, I'm not sure I follow exactly. When performing Windows Updates, it's normal that a failover to the other member in an HA pair occurs. This is the result of the server rebooting. If you like, you can have HA fail back to a prefered member when it comes back online. This is an option when editing or creating…

pratikmehta003 , there's quite a bit going on here between both pool members reporting a 'down' status to the HA licenses not being assigned. Note that HA licenses will be consumed automatically if they are unused HA licenses available. License assignment is simply a mechanism for moving HA licenses around between pools if…

The SolarWinds information service only runs on the 'Active' member and should be used as your health check when front-ending HA with a load balancer. The Information Service port runs on TCP 17777.
-
The secondary server in a main HA pool will serve the Orion web interface when a failover occurs and it becomes the 'active' member. The secondary member's web interface is only available when its the 'active' member.

You will need to have each Orion server in their own separate subnet if you plan to use a virtual hostname exclusively. Unfortunately, Virtual IPs will not work in a cloud environment and they are required for same-subnet deployments of HA.

Yes, it's possible to use a least privilege service account to update the virtual hostname by following the steps outlined in the KB article below. Required DNS Permissions to set up a High Availability Pool and access Microsoft DNS - SolarWinds Worldwide, LLC. Help a…

What you describe is likely a trust issue between domains. If there is no trust, then you may need to either establish a one-way trust or utilize an alternative method for updating the DNS name. One option is to run a different DNS server local to Orion and perform DNS replication between domains. It may sound messy but to…

I'll assume you're referring to offline activation? Regardless, all licenses are managed by the main polling engine and handed out to servers through centralized licensing.

Additional Web Servers and Additional Polling Engines need to communicate with the 'Active' Main Orion server. This is done using the hostname. When a failover occurs the hostname of the 'active' main Orion server is updated in the database, and this is the name the AWS/APE will use to connect to the 'Active' main Orion…

It shouldn't matter where you obtain the Scalability Engines Installer. Whether you download it from within the Orion web interface or from the Customer Portal, either should work equally well. I will say that depending upon which hotfix version you have applied to your Orion server, the one in the Customer Portal may be a…

pratikmehta003 Need your input on below points if possible: 1. Do we need to make any specific configuration at device end like SNMP, WMI, ICMP etc for Virtual Hostname? I have devices including SAN switches, ESX hosts/Vcenter, Windows ad Linux servers. I can't speak to your particular environment. If you have locked down…

You can follow the instructions outlined in the following KB article to grant a least privileged user account permissions to update the DNS record. This KB article references IPAM, but the steps are identical for HA. Grant non-domain administrator account rights for IPAM DNS Monitoring - SolarWinds Worldwide, LLC. Help and…

The virtual hostname is optional. It is a DNS name which is dynamically updated which is typically used for accessing the Orion web interface. it ensures that users are always directed to the 'active' member in the pool.

ss 1. Once we download the installer for secondary server and complete the installation it will redirect to console of Primary server, correct? Will all the services on secondary server be in running state? Negative. Only a few critical services will be running on the standby server. The SolarWinds Administration Service,…

For Bind, updating the DNS name is performed over port 53. For WIndows DNS, updating the virtual hostname is done over WMI. In either case, this needs to be allowed from both members of the pool.

High Availability 2.0 and Orion 2017.3 support SQL AlwaysOn Availability Groups in a multi-subnet failover configuration. This would be the recommended method for providing redundancy to your Orion SQL database.

Does this only occur when editing nodes managed via an additional polling engine?

If you upgraded to SAM 5.5 RC3 then you're running the absolute latest version. SAM 5.5 RC3 is the final GA release.

Once you've logged into your customer portal click on "View all downloads" or "View all Licenses". You should see a listing for "Server & Application Monitor v5" with a button labeled "Choose Download". Here is where you can download the latest version of SAM, or any previous version also. If you don't see SAM 5.5 listed…

Can you outline exactly what it is that you would like to see monitored? What thresholds and such should be defined? With nothing more than "Active Directory Trusts" it's hard to nail this one down. What is the problem you're trying to solve?

No, syslog functions independent of the node's operational status in Orion. The most likely issue with Syslog is that either the local Windows Firewall or something along the path between the device and the Orion server is policing the traffic and dropping syslog packets. It's also fairly common that modern day antivirus…

Reviewing your case notes, it appears your issue was related to Asset Inventory and required that jobs be spread out more evenly than the default 60 seconds between each node.
