It's important to Note that NPM only includes Hardware Health for routers, switches, etc. It does not include Hardware Health for Physical Servers, Virtual Hosts, and Server Blade Chassis. That functionality is provided by SAM only.
-
Hardware Health Monitoring in SAM can be enabled en masse by manually running and completing a network sonar discovery (not a scheduled discovery) for those specific node already monitored in Orion. I recommend creating a report of all Windows, Linux nodes in Orion using the Report Writer and exporting those nodes IP…

Leon Adato, I'm afraid you are mistaken. SAM's Windows Event Log Monitor does in fact allow you to monitor Windows Event Logs via RPC. This was added in SAM 5.5. You can also stop/start/restart services and kill processes that are monitored via RPC.

mesverrum is correct. Since Cloudflare doesn't appear to support TSIG, you will need to configure and alert action to trigger a script to update the IP address of the DNS name used to access the Orion web interface. The good news is that it looks like most of the work has already been done for you already. Update…

SolarWinds has also released an application template for measuring clock drift (skew). Ours however uses a defined NTP source as a point of comparison instead of local time on the Orion server. It's also available for both Windows and Linux/Unix hosts. Server Clock Drift (PowerShell) Server Clock Drift (Perl)
-
Templates don't need to be downloaded from within the product. You can download them from your computer as a file and import that file into SAM by going to [Settings -> SAM Settings -> Manage Templates -> Import/Export -> Import] as shown below.

Quick Status Update After working with our Support and Development team we were able to identify the issue and provide a solution the very next day. The fix for this problem is included in the forthcoming SP1 for APM 4.2 which should be available for download through the customer portal on Tuesday November 15th for all…

Are your credentials automatically passed transparently by your browser to EOC the same credentials that you use to log into your machine? If so, then you're likely using Internet Explorer with Windows Integrated Authentication. This requires that your machine and the host running EOC be joined to the same Active Directory…

I would recommend double checking the transfer mode and ensuring that it's set for 'Buffered'. If it's still set to 'Streamed' then I recommend switching it to 'Buffered'. Under Centralized Advanced Settings, change'SolarWinds.Orion.InformationServiceClient' TransferMode from 'Streamed' to 'Buffered'. You can access…

That's effectively what the condition group I posted in my example above should do. Notice the indentation of the second trigger condition in my example above vs the flat structure of the one you posted earlier? The best way to test the alert trigger condition is to set something you know to be true. While this might be a…

HA requires that the connection credentials be the same, regardless of which member is 'Active'. So long as you can ensure that the credentials to authenticate to the SQL server and access the Orion database are the same when accessing either SQL cluster member, then you should be fine.
-
If the Database is inaccessible, the polling results queue on the polling engine they were collected from. These results are stored in MSMQ, and flushed once the SQL instance is brought back online and persisted to the database.

alexslv, split brain conditions are not possible with HA. Despite appearance, there is always a quorum to break an electoral tie. That third tie breaker is always the SQL server itself. This eliminates any possibility of both members running in isolation mode.

Nice catch steven.melnichuk@tbdssab.ca! That test was written for Beta 2. Now in Beta 3, we have implemented local recovery attempts to prevent unnecessary failovers. When/if the server can recover locally without failing over, it will do so. If for some reason the server is unable to fully recover after 3 attempts in a…

With Microsoft ending support for SNMP after Windows 2012, we are aware there is a need to monitor hosts in a more firewall friendly fashion. Stay tuned for more information on that front.

AppInsight for Exchange is now available for beta testing. We'd love to get your initial thoughts and feedback on what we've implemented thus far. Sign-up, download the beta, and drop us a note in the Server & Applications Monitor Beta forum and let us know what you think!

APM is actually just as simple, or in some cases easier to use than ipMonitor. The feature you're describing is actually called "Find Processes, Services and Performance Counters" and can be located under "Settings -> APM Settings-> Find Processes, Services and Performance Counters". It's a wizard that where you can find…

Development of the next AppInsight application is already underway, but I can't let the cat out of the bag just yet. I will be updating the "What we're working on" post in the next week or so with more details. I am however curious to know what applications you'd like to see get the "AppInsgiht" treatment, as I am busy…

Yes, provided SNMP is enabled and configured on the ESXi host. Below is an example of an ESXi 5.5 host running in my lab. I would recommend using either the Real-Time Process Explorer or the Component Monitor Wizard to select the processes you wish to monitor.
-
rschroeder may be suggesting managing the individual virtual machines themselves with Orion to help gain insight into when the ESX host is locking up. I'm basing that on the fact that ESX hosts can't be managed via WMI, nor can you install a QoE sensor under the ESX/ESXi operating system itself. If the host is indeed…

Also, have you looked over the following KB articles? I believe the 2nd one is most applicable to your issue. * SolarWinds Knowledge Base :: "Bad input parameter", "Category is invalid", or "Invalid Class" errors when you use Orion APM Performance Counter monitors * SolarWinds Knowledge Base :: Error: "Bad input parameter.…

That's not entirely true. Availability and response time should be retained when switching a node between SNMP and WMI. If you are switching a node between WMI and Agent, then everything should be retained, despite the warning notification you receive.

You will find the Core Service Pack version in the footer of the Orion Web Interface as shown below. If you are still experiencing this issue on the version(s) depicted in the screenshot above, please try a different browser or use Google's Incognito mode to determine if it's a caching issue.
-
As serena can attest, this should not be occurring. Once you click 'ok, I got it' you should never see the prompt again. Can I ask both of you to please open a case with support and post your case numbers here so we can determine what's causing this issue? Fortunately, I can say it's not systemic. However, we haven't yet…

AppInsight for SQL is fully supported using an Agent. You cannot however, use an Agent to monitor a SQL cluster. Do the instances not appear when you perform a 'List Resources' on the node managed via the Agent?

We incorporated this functionality into the new charts included in SAM 5.2, currently in Release Candidate. If you'd like download the RC you can sign up here. More information on SAM 5.2 can be found in my blog postings below.…
