  • SW support just fixed this issue for me. There is a SP being released to address this APM licensing issue.
  • You 'da bomb Pavel. That's exactly what I was looking for!
  •  Guru, When you say it's difficult, do you mean you've contacted Customer Service and they haven't been able to do it? I'll just repeat that we can't do this automatically because of the implications that would have for customers who do not want their maintenance co-terminated. Denny Our vendor management is now dealing…
  • I recently created 3 new maps in V8.1 I was poking around in the Orion install directory & notice 3 <mapname>temp.bmp files there. I wonder if these are somehow related?
  • Here's an example of what I think this chart should do. VPN box 1 has 20 users connected VPN box 2 has 30 users connected VPN box 3 has 40 users connected I should see a summary chart with a max of 90 users connected. But I only ever see the max of 20 users connected on VPN box 1. I'm using the same UnDP poller for all 3…
  • couldn't you use the "logging source-interface" command? Yes this is the best practice. You should setup a loopback on routers and use a management VLAN IP for switches. These should be set as the source for Syslog, Traps, Tacacs, etc. Otherwise things will break when a vlan or interface goes down on a device. As you have…
  • The only downside to this approach, is you must remember to add the custom property when a new device is added. It's just an extra step. Using the NodeName as the trigger means alerting is automatically enabled when the device is added to monitoring.
  • I upgraded my SL2000 from V9.0 to 9.1 last night. The file I downloaded not only upgraded to 9.1, but also installed SP2, so I didn't need to download SP2 separately.... I must say the installers have gotten a lot smarter. This was one of the easiest and most seamless upgrades yet. In all it did take about 15 minutes, but…
  • Dave, you can currently edit a single "user created" custom property via the web page. You cannot edit an SNMP discovered property via the web page. You also cannot manage a property set through the System Manager directly in the DB using DB manager. The SW DB runs in memory (on the pollers) and changing the unmanaged…
  • ICMP polling only at 300 second intervals should be OK for 7000 nodes (as a back-up solution). I was running over 6000 elements with 99% polled with SNMP on a single server install. It was slow but manageable (used 3 disk Raid 0 for DB).
  • Well as you said in your statement 'Our systems were down" and now the system is up. No one laughed at you, and the information that I asked for is always based on what I need to do my job, including screen shots. I've have a hard job but one I enjoy, so I look forward to you calling back and allowing us to deal with what…
  • I have to use the Windows Services MMC to stop the Poller. The Solarwinds GUI will just timeout and the service will never stop. The pollers read the node, interface and volume info from the DB into memory when they first start up. If you don't stop the polling services, the changes will be overwritten the next time the…
  • We integrated Orion with Kiwi Syslog years ago. We configured Kiwi to write to a MYSQL DB on the Kiwi server. We then created custom queries in Orion to retrieve and display the data from the MySQL DB simialr to the Orion Syslog display. This allows us to remove the additional load created by Syslogging to the Orion DB and…
  • Help!!! I too have no Edit button available on any of the new views I have created. When I add a resource to this view and either preview it, or save it anf then view it, there is no Edit button on any of the resources to assign the properies I want to the resource.... Running Orion 9.1SP4 with APM2.5 Logged in with full…
  •  Thanks Chris, 'nuff said.
  • Hi Jiri, has this issue been resolved in V7.2.1? Selected report contains 619862 rows. Exporting such big data set may cause performance issues. It is recommended to limit numbers of rows to be exported. I have a failed device that I need to export the Physical Entities data for an RMA. Using the Win32 NCM app in 7.1.1, I…
  • We are writing to an external SQL DB. No log file on Orion server. Have you checked for this file in your Orion directory? This is a job which runs from a DLL included in Orion & is based on the settings you provide in System Manager for data retention. If this log file does not exist on your server, then you will be…
  • There are a couple of ways to do this securely. Method one: Use a /30 private IP address as the loopback on your DMZ/Internet router. Add the /30 private IP subnet as a secondary interface on the FW interface which has your Netflow router in it. Setup the Netflow source as the new private loopback IP to send flows to to…
  • Thanks, I already created that report, but it's a little sparse on details. I may look for a UnDP poller that will log the number of clients connected to each WLC. That way I can get charts, which usually present better than just numbers.
  • You can set the Syslog retention to something like 14 - 30 days & that should keep it in check. Other than that, if you have a DBA maintaining your Orion DB, you could have them write a stored procedure which moves the Syslogs into a separate DB (possibly on another server). You'd have to rewrite the Syslog.asp file to…
  •  According to the Orion Administrators Guide on Page 131: <quote> NPM Web Settings The following options may be configured from the NPM Web Settings page: • Help Server is the URL of the server where online help for Orion NPM is stored. </quote> Therefore, you should be able to store the help files locally on your Orion…
  • Additionally, I'd like to be able to search on subnets & their properties. I've got thousands of subnets, and scrolling through a pane limited to 150 entries is not viable. Example, I have a subnet that I want to either create or add existing IPs to. How can I find if the subnet is already created, and if so, what IPs are…
  • What type of router are you getting the IP ARP info from? You should see info coming from the router first & then the bridge info from the switch.
  • You should never monitor a WAN or LAN interface IP. You should always use a Loopback IP on all your devices for polling, NTP, Tacacs & sending SNMP traps. Then just make sure you advertise the loopback IP's into your S2S VPN tunnel.
  • This would be possible with Custom SNMP polling - Get Table, which would allow you to get the routing table off a router. Apparently this will be available in Solarwinds V9 due out in Q2 this year.
  • OK, thanks for the info Chris. It appears I will have to use the Engineers Toolset DHCP Scope Monitor tool to do this as before, and see if the Windows server admin group are willing to setup an admin service account which has rights to do this (our network group does not own these servers).
  • Thanks for looking at this Denny, Even changing the existing dropdown in APM and VoIP Monitor to include 7 & 30 day stats, like NPM, would be a benefit. This would make NPM, APM & VoIP Monitor consistent in their look and feel.
  • Open Windows Task Manager on your server & sort your processes by CPU. What process(es) is chewing up the majority of your CPU?
  • Sorry Steve, I was going to mention the files did not show up in the CSZ. If you are using the Lean & Green user interface, try changing to the default view. The CSZ was all messed up for me until I reset my profile to the default view.
  • I found the web page that allows one to select which nodes in NPM will be managed in NCM, so that is no longer a concern. However, when I upgraded from V6.1 to V7 I lost the ability to manage 5 custom properties I had defined in NCM. These 5 custom NCM properties are now orphaned at the bottom of the web page when editing…
