  • I believe the Cisco OID being polled also includes interface queuing discards. If you have overflowing buffers on your interfaces or traffic shaping or QOS enabled, the SNMP discard counter also includes these.
  • Sorry, my bad, I am running Win2k3 & will be installing SP1 tonight & rerun the Orion config wizard. Support suggested re-installing IIS, but that had no affect on this problem. Just for reference sake, in case others run into this problem, this is the warning message in the Windows eventlog: A process serving application…
  • I suggested something similar several years ago: Based on certain event types, trigger advanced troubleshooting tools. EG. -when packet loss exceeds 5% run the traceroute program to the node and post the results in the node details page. -when an OSPF flap syslog message is received, log onto the router with NCM and run…
  •  Netflow gathers stats only in the inbound direction of an interface. In order to gather stats in both directions, you must enable Netflow on both the LAN & WAN interfaces on a single router.
  • The benefit to this type of Automated Network Troubleshooting is it works for all nodes monitored by Orion. It timestamps the data that is written to a text file. It also appends the data to the same file over and over again for each event, so you have a historical text file record saved on the Orion server for each node.…
  • I'm just getting into the ASP.net resource coding in Orion V10.1 now. I'm not gonna promise anything....
  • Note, the custom resource uses .ASP code, so it would have to be re-written for the .ASPNET code in V9.5 ASP (.resource files) are no longer supported in V9.5
  • Use the other Cisco VPN3000 Poller if you want Connected Users. This one gives active IKE level 1 tunnels - not the same thing.
  • Report showing configured users on your Orion server.
  • What about the NCM built-in SFTP server? Is that safe or vulnerable?
  • I'm not sure what you by "device/node mapping feature". Perhaps the switch port mapper feature is what you are looking for? This gives you the name of each device plugged into your switch ports, as long as your DNS reverse lookups are up to date. As far as creating a network map or drawing, this is something you have to do…
  • See this post for explanation of Dynamic Baseline Alert Thresholds: Dynamic alert thresholds in 10.7 This is a new feature in 10.7 that does dynamic calculations of historical response times and generates warning and critical alerts based on these calculated thresholds. You can get to this functionality at the bottom of…
  • Yes there is a way to do this. Have you changed the dropdown selection above the nodes to interfaces? Next select a common property for all interfaces you want to delete. Then mark the checkbox at the top of the interfaces column and select the "apply to all" text which will appear next to it.
  • You'd still have to go in after the discovery & tell it what resources you want to monitor - CPU/Memory & all, only active or no interfaces. Then most of us add Custom properties & descriptions to the node & interfaces. There really is no simple way to get around doing at least some manual work. I suggest you leave a tool…
  • There is currently no way to import nodes from a text file directly into the DB. www4.solarwinds.net/.../topic.asp -=Cheers=- NG ~seek & ye shall find---> [url="http://www4.solarwinds.net/SolarWindsForum/search.asp"] <---no need to wait for answers~
  •  Yes you can do this by using the same Interface custom property description to the links you want to aggregate. Base your report on this Custom property only - No Node or Interface ID or descriptions. Report Writer will sum the figures for all interfaces with this same Custom Property description and report back a single…
  • Kiwi Syslogger can export a page to HTML. There must be a way to "auto-export" this to an html page on the Orion server using a script of some kind. At least that is what I'm looking into when I get the chance. -=Cheers=- NG
  • Jeff, No you are not missing anything, there is no easy out-of-the-box method of doing this. I've created custom pages with multiple graphs, but it is a manual process which requires some URL coping & pasting, as well as some basic html coding. See the following post for more details: www4.solarwinds.net/.../topic.asp I've…
  • Yes, http://<Orion-server>/NetPerfMon/Login.asp?AccountID=xyz&Password=123 -=Cheers=- NG
  • I submitted this as a feature request, as the TTL is not currently being collected as part of the ICMP echo-reply stats. I'm not sure if this is going to be added or not in future versions. It should be quite easy to add another column to the DB called TTL and collect this data along with the ICMP response time. Then I…
  • Not that I'm aware of, but this would definitely be valuable feature. I logged onto the Orion server and found our backbone devices down alert was disabled. Perhaps Solarwinds could write any changes to existing alerts to their event log in the DB, similar to when the polling timers are changed for a node or interface.…
  • What time period are you reporting on - daily, weekly, monthly? There is no easy way to create a report like this with the built-in Report Writer. You would have to use something like Crystal Reports to do this. There is a built-in report for "peak traffic period for today" (or something like this). It shows you the peak…
  • Hi Duncan, I suggest using Report writer to report on Network availability, & just exclude the nodes which "don't count" from the report using the filter function. -=Cheers=- NG
  • Thanks for the feedback on 7.1 SLX pre-release. Looks like some useful new features: -Fixes for issues with website slowdowns and lockups -Fixes for issues with polling engine slowdowns -Account limitations for network interfaces -Ability to manage DHCP addressed devices -Added ability to copy maps/objects directly from…
  • I have heard through the grapevine that this feature will be released in V8. Please don't ask when V8 will be released. It'll be released when it's finished (for all you Half-Life 2 fans out there that waited 5 years for this game to be finished :>) -=Cheers=- NG
  • Search & you shall find: &SearchTerms=interface,availability,report www2.solarwinds.net/.../topic.asp -=Cheers=- NG
  • There is currently no app that does this, but you can get creative & change the polling based on a custom property. Using the Orion Database Manager, you can create a custom query to change the polling interval based on a common custom property assigned to the group. A query something like this should work: Update [polling…
  • quote:Originally posted by pancamo I'm still trying to find a way to keep SW from timing out. The highest setting in SW is 1440 minutes. Have a look at this post; www2.solarwinds.net/.../topic.asp -=Cheers=- NG
  • Aside from the burn-in problem, you could use a separate PC for each Plasma screen. Each PC would have to be logged into Solarwinds Orion using a Windows Domain account so that it will not timeout. -=Cheers=- NG
  • Sorry Terry, but that's no doable with Orion at this time. You'll have to wait for Orion Version 8. Just do a search for Version 8 for more details on this: www2.solarwinds.net/.../topic.asp -=Cheers=- NG
