What @rscroeder said.... same thing as the non-government IT world....

TGIF bump!! Just two more workdays until Monday ! #bumpsquad

pertinent is sometimes discovered later but is generally discovered through knowledge and experience to a specific environment. (SME) It is not a great answer but the best I can give at this point tin time.
-
you are assuming you will be at an altitude that a parachute is effective...
-
Hmmm...I never saw it either.
-
automated patch management is great....AFTER you have vetted the patch. I have never seen a patch or update bring down a system or data center...never. And if you believe that....
-
Basically a service catalog. The next question that always gets asked is, what are the thresholds for the alerts?
-
a challenge we are having for one environment is being able to "monitor" it appropriately. We can do some queries to see how the "DB thinks" it is doing, but have no visibility on the platform it runs on......

Last Tuesday of August Bump...

Please see http://thwack.solarwinds.com/ideas/2637 for datawarehouse idea.

Depends...older boars and sows can have what people call a "gamey" flavor which tends to be hormones. Younger pigs are much better. Free Range tend to eat a variety of things so it is not the daily "feed". Same thing with the feral hogs. They are truly free range...they range over your land, your neighbors land, the land…

It's called marketing....or remarketing/rebranding. It's been happening in IT since the 60's.
-
Ah the joys of least privilege... Then comes the fun annual audit of all service and elevated privilege accounts to make sure those privileges are still needed. You do that don't you ?
-
What about the audit requirements that serve no real purpose, business or otherwise like authentication traps ?
-
Cool stuff. Thanks for the info !

I agree with @"rschroeder" that the first paragragh makes a statement about some topics that are listed but are not mentioned lower when topics that are being discussed are mentioned. Thus there appears to be a disparity in the question as asked and the answers provided to choose from.
-
While you must document for audit to know you are "doing something", you must log and have the data to back it up... Yes the dance with being compliant and secure is a tedious one...they are complementary in nature as what you are doing now to be secure may become a requirement for compliance later on. Now if a step to be…

The challenge with many of the data visualization tools is that that pull data in quite well and can munch it up 7 ways from Sunday. The opportunity arises when you try to get results to put into other tools. They don't share well.

Congrats Kurt H

cahunt, I'm already here But thanks for helping me spread the word and the bump !!
-
I do not know...based on some people I have worked with there now working here, there is a possibility. Although it would have needed to be updated to support SSH which wasn't well supported in perl at the time.

I entirety of all the log data is good for the software systems that learn what is normal and then can pick out the anomalies. I know we have some applications that have very chatty java logs.....with intermixed multilined event messages. Those are truly a headache.
-
That Bacon Man Crate sounds interesting... We could use a good rundown on it for the next Actuator! Walmart here has eliminated 75% of the normal checkout lanes. They still have to have a couple normal lanes for certain things. We shall see how this goes come holiday shopping season comes around....

Thursday Morning rain bump...

bump from thwackcamp discussion !

I do believe Microsoft is a better candidate than Amazon for said contract. Amazon already influences too much in the retail sector.

So adatole, do we need to get some cheese to go with the WINE ?
