It took a minute or 3 for mine to load...maybe there is a throughput issue somewhere....

First bump for the new decade! Hopefully we can continue to talk this up at the SWUGS and make it a topic of importance. #bumpsquad

only 68 times ?

A long time ago in a place not that far away storage was expensive...some people just are not in tune with the times and how cheap (money wise) storage and memory have become.

Network diagrams are great and can be a full time job to keep updated. But I see the need for critical path diagrams for business services as well. These are separate but crucial views into the companies business. We don't just monitor the network... The two views are complementary in that together they show a more…

Welcome to the madness gminks ! As you'll find SAM is a pretty nifty tool !

Ah...sudden situational awareness at its highest pucker factor.

Thanks Danielle...

Nice rschroeder ! What about the mini cow patties ? Of course those could be put into a methane generator and produce power to help run the datacenter...

I do as long as it's me Bring it on maria.bungau, I am sure we all want to know !

or could they ? a DOS attack on one or more of the sensors could distract the autonomous driver...just hit it with noise, then it takes processing power to pull the real data out of the background. Essentially jamming it.

as mentioned, plan it and work the plan...but allow for contingencies in the plan. Things change and sometimes your plan can box you in.

+1 to what ecklerwr1 said mrs.alterego ! Something happened to me yesterday... Have you considered or is it even possible to have a "whitelist" for known habitual contributors that don't normally cause trouble ? ....oops, that might exclude me

yep...last year I had a 36 year old ratchet give up the ghost...still replaced it without question. This year the little spring loaded retention ball in the 6" extension for that same set broke and fell out. Again replaced with no questions asked. The only thing left is the same retention ball on the 3" extension...so far…

Ahh...be aware. Be aware of what is happening in the mainstream world and new exploits that are happening so hopefully you can head off an event or a breach.

I recall about this time the shop I was at was playing with IPv6...somethings didn't play well with it. The order things appeared in a mixed host file made or broke them. In other words if an IPv6 address was listed before the IPv4 address in the host file, then the software couldn't resolve it. It was a pain.

The Microsoft only restriction will hinder most shops these days...

Counting down the weeks and days!!

Nick, I have seen things in the voting stage get partially implemented or even fully implemented without a "we're working on this" stage. I suspect they have been trying to figure out how to re-architect the UI frontend to accommodate this. I also suspect they have been run ragged after the latest big release (sam 6.2, npm…

playing catch up here...the opportunities for the hacker and attacker are rising with the internet of things. We can be diligent...

Sweet...

While I am not on the team that manages network configuration management, I do know the configs are backed up nightly. I know they also track changes both through their tool and change management...both go hand in hand.

It needs to also include the network traffic as part of the forecasting/planning. Being able to do what-if's involving a serious ramp up in servers/applications/traffic if you saw say a 60% growth coming on in the next 6 months is crucial be being able to stay afloat.

idiot proof ? Is there any that are truly idiot proof ? Kind of like child proof... Notice how that aren't as many things marked water proof anymore ? More like Water resistant. Probably the best we can attain is idiot resistant so at least we can't be sued by the one idiot who can't figure it out.

Ah, then there was the McAfee virus. A McAfee push had a bad definition that flagged svchost.exe as a virus. Every windows device basically stopped communicating. Hilarity ensued as it required every windows device to be visited with a thumbdrive to resolve the issue....after we got the fix. We had machines (laptops, pc,…
