Interesting article on robots and now I know about "The Robot Report". I have been following the microchip story in the news...of course it is also one more thing that has been written about in Sci Fi for decades coming to life.

What ? You get a basement window ?

We have 3 Win 2k3 servers supporting an old legacy tool that has been out of support for a number of years from back in the day when everyone was cutting back to minimal staff and support.... Migration is a project on our plate...along with everything else.

Certainly a flashback to the late 70's/early 80's. Lots of hoopla there !

I did see that word and I thought I selected the one item you cannot do...guess I fat fingered it.

Yes it is key to keep things up to date. Internal design as an issue for some, yes. For many others it is a time and resource issue. ROI for a documentation analyst is hard to document...but I know in many environments it is what is needed since most shops are working with less and having to do more. It is a vicious cycle…

Tuesday morning bump ! Lets keep this one on the radar.

A couple of nifty things about Nagios are the use of timeperiods and service's. A Service describes attribute of a monitor but can be defined as a generic template for use with a service_monitor. This is similar to a SAM template. You can set polling intervals, number of polls before alerting, notification groups, etc. The…

yes...it changed policy such that everytime it flies the camera is on and recording. Next time the person gets arrested and charged for assault on a public safety person I believe is what I was told. It was taken rather seriously.

+1 on keeping your collection in online distributors warehouses. Sad thing is that Mouser Electronics (local to where I work) has a will call window so I can order that morning and pick up that afternoon. Only sad in that my checking account can suffer.

Social media has been a tool for social engineering to get basic data to start the social engineering attacks. This could be at the software sales/marketing level or something a bit more insidious. Through a little research on LinkedIn they can find data about you, but those you work with allowing them to drop appropriate…

data is the new Gold Mine that needs it's own Fort Knox..

I would concur....keep them separate and watch their traffic while keeping them out of other networks.

Sad thing is I have seen the 6500 fall flat on its face and bring down the entire network. It was not the fault of the lan/wan team...the procurement person who did the final order thought he was being smart in ordering smaller power supplies..two smaller equaled 1 larger supply so it should be good...right ? It was fine…

Good question...the opportunity I think has to be considered is when you become aware of a problem, you may need to go back weeks or months to determine time and day in which the first event occurs and where. I would think forensically it could be quite a lot...But for other issues it may be a couple weeks or so. It seems…

Ugh.....moderated again on a 2001 modified quote.

Congrats to swf5002@psu.edu as well !!

years...okay decades ago they were replacing some of the buildings cooling towers and it affected the data center chillers. So the entire 20 story building was without A/C one day in the summer here in Texas. I was the operator scheduled to be on shift that day. The mainframe was shut down and the only systems up were the…

Excellent articles as usual. I'll have to look at the Pokemon Go article from home as the site is blocked here at the office...
