<bandwagon> I will jump in here and say to the others...if you use this resource and want to see changes or have ideas on improving it, check with Kellie and the UX team. They really do listen and your input really does help the product grow and evolve to help all customers. This is a huge thing because many other…

okay the list is going to be long.... Pumpkin pie pumpkin bread apple pie pecan pie cheese cake pumpkin cheese cake (think pumpkin spice) coffee cake and more to come.... My inlaws go nuts with thanksgiving desserts...it is not uncommon to see 15-25 pies/cakes/other goodies show up at the family gathering.

just gotta work hard to keep 30k points between us...

something a prior boss said on a regular basis drove me nuts... "On a go forward basis"

I still see some aspects of this that will need refining...but the scheduling portion for alerts is a step in the right direction...the question that comes to mind is how easy is it to go back and update the 'window' that is associated with an alert ? Both in change it to a different "window" or to alert the time period of…

Dang rob.hock needs a 12 pack or better !!

Sounds like you need event correlation. Something we all need within the alert manager. Otherwise you'll really need to look outside the product. If Solarwinds ran on unix orwere to forward events to a log file on unix you could use a really good opensource tool called SEC (Simple Event Correlater) which can do that and…

You have discovered why ping is useful for "reachability" tests only but not availability tests...the server is reachable on the network but is not available.

Can I exchange thwack points for shares ?

Bravo !!! This is what I have been trying to describe to my engineers...now there is a gotcha. For a windows server that is a VM, it has X number of CPU's as VM has "told" it but the server doesn't know it is virtual. If the one of the VM guests is so busy that it is taking a large amount of resources, it is possible that…

Support this idea !! https://thwack.solarwinds.com/ideas/2655

What have you done to troubleshoot so far and what were the results?

Kellie, While Cron is a great scheduling tool and in this case would be good for some recurring events like reports ,certain maintainence, backups, it could potentially be used for "un-managing" nodes or devices during recuring windows or maintainence periods that happen on a regular basis (a feature that is sorely…

Congrats Radioteacher ! I'm hoping to catch level 18 this year... From this point on, there gets to be not as much moving up in the ranks unless someone further up slacks off or leaves thwack.
-
Not much info here to work with... I assume it was idle at the time and not doing anything.

what versions are you on (core, npm, sam) ? There is evidence there is a problem with Platform 2015.1.2, SAM 6.2.1, and NPM 11.5.2 regarding alerts not firing on time (6 hours later recently for us), firing on un-managed servers, un-managed servers not re-managing on time.
-
First, what is your intention ? Are you wanting to poll them to see if they are running or are you looking for a one time list ? Can you set up a sam monitor to run a powershell script ? You'll need to have powershell set up on the XP server I believe version 2.0 is the one for XP. You can see some stuff via SNMP. more…

I would wonder what constitutes and alarm ? Is there a value that needs to change or is it more on a binary value. What does the cisco documentation have to say about them ? What do they actually represent ?
-
Are you using groups in your dependencies ?
-
Are you wanting to store the actual files or just file information ?
-
I hear you Radioteacher ! I joined about the same time and have been busy with UX sessions, missions, and in general trying to participate on the forums.

Congrats to Dez ! It was a pleasure to meet you at the Dallas SWUG.

The previous posts are very good examples of what you can do. In the end with a little thought and even some creative SQL you can do all manner of things. One of the areas that they become useful for involves complex alert conditions where you can look for various values related to a node in custom properties to determine…

Thanks Kellie...already voted. To the masses, this is your chance to help shape the future of Orion...all votes count !!

That is one of the best things about this job...so many ways to accomplish the same thing...but you need to find what fits best. If you set it up so the application monitor turns critical when all three are down then you may not know when you have a partial failure or degraded situation. By having the alert fire when all…

Is it possible the trigger condition allows at least one of the cpu's to be greater than 20 ? Thus at least one is within the trigger allowances even though the others are not ? You might see if there is an OID for average CPU and use that and include a "period of time" equal to a polling interval (minimum) so that at…

I think you need to be a member of the group or forum in which you are attempting to post the idea or an idea is not appropriate for most of the groups or forums causing them to be greyed out...

Pingdom has possibilities...like WPM it fills a niche and helps you to measure service availability since in todays HA (Highly Available) world a single server or 2 being down may not be a critical thing with multiple servers sharing the load behind load balancers. WPM is a great point solution to run internal monitoring…

with about 3k points or less to go @bkyle and myself will join the 250k club.... Agreed DanielleH and the community team have done a great job !!
