Congrats to byrona !!

Not only is it easier to throw hardware at the problem these days, it is almost cheaper than paying someone to optimizing the query for speed and throughput...

The fact that fire stations are being impacted kind of tells us that some people just don't care: http://www.fireengineering.com/articles/2016/07/pokemon-go-public-education.html http://www.masslive.com/news/index.ssf/2016/07/williamsburg_firefighters_ask.html…

the period from when they walk in the door until they leave is just as vulnerable since they may have direct access to this information.

Good thing for most is that I tend to not be very verbose....so between rschroeder and myself, we should have the extremes covered.
-
Good stuff Leon... The capacity planning portion really needs to tie into a data warehouse for long term growth analytics and reporting. It should include detailed data points as well as some roll-ups for various types of reports. Please look at my idea for a data warehouse, its uses and benefits..

Negative... When I clicked on question 1 it took me back to the mission page.

Scom is a good point solution for many things...Solarwinds benefits form being able to (in many cases) incorporate those point solutions into their view of the world although not as well as it could.

Good write-up. It is certainly a problem at any shop. I know that here a group policy was put in place to only allow software to be executed from certain locations on a workstation or laptop. Those locations are scanned for compliance. While not perfect it is a step towards what is needed.

Monday morning #bumpsquad bump while looking for coffee. My Death Wish coffee order arrives later today...

<soapbox> The Death by Pokemon thing is closer to reality than most people think. Just think of the number of idiots that cut through parking lots without regard or even looking for those coming up and down the rows much less pedestrians. Then toss in a few unsuspecting people (not just kids) wandering around the parking…

the cloud is like the fog, it obscures things...costs, performance, security, visability, accessibility, etc. Just think of upcoming Sarbanes Oxley audits...what do you mean you can't control all access ? SLA's...what SLA's? Do they match your business SLA's?

So do all the head geeks have the adatole approved conference thwackpack full of the geeks required conference attendance items ?

ecklerwr1, in addition to the tower of rings there is the multiple coat hooks with badges/lanyards hanging from them. But I figured he deserved an official Honorific.
-
have considered that sort of thing...but it should be built into the product. It is the concept of a business service when you have clustered resources that needs to be addressed.

kong.yang, build it and I am sure many will come !

Ransomware is a business to some...it does no good if someone cannot pay a lump sum to break their data out of jail. Also, some people need help wading through the process.... In the end for the perpetrators, it makes sense to pay a bit to have those services in order to gain more on the back end....it now opens up…

AS a note, every disaster is different and recovery will vary... Planning for DR needs to incorporate a variety of solutions with documentation on how to recover or at least get back up and running until the real problem can be fixed. Change in the environment will hamper this as the DR world is behind the curve and not in…

Most places I know of use an IT asset disposal (remarketing) company when things go off lease. They buy for pennies on the dollar and then resell to other companies or recycle.

Interesting... One phrase you mentioned earlier "performance at scale". That is one of the challenges a number of us have been having in larger environments and where we have to look back over time (months/years) to see how we have done. Performance vs. Growth vs. Changes at the detail level without things rolled up to a…
