Between Facebook Dating and the list of phone numbers/ID's from Facebook I just don't see them being on the up and up. I foresee EPIC FAIL written on the wall.

Solarwinds discovery, especially if you have SAM, should be able to let you know in the app stack.

It is better to have the have the fear and have it be unrealized than to be totally confident and have everything dashed, smashed, folded, spindled, and otherwise mutilated. That way you are looking and testing for the weak link as well as being aware that there may be a weak link knowing Murphy likes to throw a wrench and…

I am confused as rschroeder, granted monitoring can be turned up to the point that it impacts that which it is watching so it should be done with care. I get the impression the author is advocating only monitoring with a single tool which in itself has its own pitfalls. It leaves you with only one perspective into the…

I located the section that mentions the topic in the slidedeck...but there was no real discussion pertaining to the question as presented. As others have mentioned, I don't have time to sit through an hour of video.

One of the joys we have with IPSLA is that some of the recipients of the alerts generated by it don't understand that it is device to device reachability that is failing not that a particular device is down. Usually it is a newb to the environment...

Automation with regards to IT is not a new thing. Automated Operations and a lights out data center were the buzz words and level to attain back in the late 80's/early 90's. There are a huge amount of scripted coding wrapped around various tools to do this... Later in life, I did a lot of automated (scripted) updates to…

They have been rather well crafted as of late...such that you had to think a minute or three.

Thanks for posting.... Object storage seems to be the logical extension of Object Oriented Programming. Question though...is it riding on top of a traditional storage method ? As in, is it really just in a database and the database resides on a more traditional NAS, SAN, or even cloud based storage ?

I'd like to see the content about the DNC app but not on twitter....guess google is my friend.

What would be nice to see in the new features something that is similar to what you have later on the page where you refer to a ticket number for a problem or issue that was fixed by the release, but I'd like to see a reference to a new feature if it is related to an idea that is published on thwack. This would help people…

traceroute has been a good cheap tool. Benefit is that you don't need SNMP access to anything...but these days with multipathing it is not as useful of a tool....

Modern virtualization tools while very useful also have their drawbacks. Proper use of tools and the VM engineer checking what they see from one tool against another (different views or perspective) can show a totally different story. For example, running vCops and using it's recommendations to "rightsize" a server without…

Ahh...but we can't run pre-rolled VM appliances/OS's that we cannot patch due to the type of business we do so alert central is not possible for us.

It is the documentation that ties it all together. It defines and indicates what is the single source of truth, how things are standardized and when it is not, why and how it fits in as well as mitigation. Configuration management plans and how they work also have to be documented as well as scripts, issues, and…

Good stuff @"rschroeder" !

It is not just audit beforehand...you need baselines of application (transaction) and network performance data in time series data points and expectations before and after the migration. What are you normal transaction rates ? What are your known peak transaction rates ? Is your transaction rate better or worse after the…

It is a good option...it gives a different perspective into the environment otherwise you may not see the forest for the trees.
