Hmmm..think tank, shark tank, shark bait ?

this is where devices such as the riverbed appliances come in handy, they cache things such as files at the edge such that the most common ones are closer to where they need to be. In a past life we used them to cache MSDS files at the edge of each branch (worldwide) so that we didn't have to transmit the same datasheets…

Good stuff. Be sure you have a small tool monitoring your monitoring environment. You have to have something outside looking in. It also helps if you are not in the same VM frame as what you are monitoring otherwise you may have a skewed view of what you see.

I am sure it doesn't handle a stutter or a block. People have a hard enough time with it...

Check out this Geek Speak article.. Thank You, IT Pros

For small entities it can be a good thing...I am trying to get our ESD to go more cloud to fix some of the failings of the small hardware collection we have especially since our hired IT team only supports us m-f 0800-1700...so the guys running shifts on the weekends may not have access to email or the ability to put in…

Of course google is good at it, they have the lawyers to help them find those cracks to sneak through. So many companies out there gather your personal data and then sell it without your knowledge or validation as to if the data is correct.

multiple ip's with loopback and a specific mgmt port. Mgmt port could even be the loopback.

Good points here...but obviously there wa a plan for the 5th floor...and likely a project with capitol expenditures. Thus there should have been time to plan and budget and order the proper hardware to support. Part of reducing the drift is to be plugged into the overall ITSM/change/project architecture.

Congrats to all the Winners !

cahunt it needs bacon...

Part of the challenge is that when the VM admins build out the virtual servers, they don't spec out additional resources for monitoring....that has to be part of the equation.

Just a note...todays hint says to use the top 20 applications module and the referred to page only has a top 10 applications module. The correct answer was obtained using the top 10 application module so the module name was probably a typo....

It is interesting to note that there is a flood of craftsmen toolboxes at the local Lowes store.

in a word.... YES !!

We generally disable monitoring during patching since that is a known scheduled down time and so we don't count it against SLA's. The challenge is when you have two back to back (on different days) patching or scheduled changes for the same device...Orion only allows you to have one scheduled unmanage time so we have to…

Actually scope would be irrelevant. It could apply to anything. Not really sure what you are referring to in condition. Any prod condition should be defined elsewhere. Reference to a calendar object is - "either it is during the calendar period or not". I have made a "calendar" and tied it into the alerting engine based on…

After refreshing the page the link works. Downside is that you are still prompted to fill out a form for a free download. We should not have to fill out download forms for a mission video.

That works for one aspect of it. In a large environment, you can't keep as much data long term without impacting system performance. One aspect of this is to also get data older than say a week off the production database. This way you can run reports, build graphs, etc. off the production DB and have larger tables without…

The team approach will be better for you professionally in that it shows you are willing to be a team player. It shows that you don't work in a personal silo and likely are more apt to think of and support the companies long term goals..in my opinion. Yes it is great to be able to attack a huge task and own it. But the…

The UX aspect of monitoring is just part of the puzzle. Yes you need it as well as the tools to get the complete picture. Over time you can correlate certain patterns to relate to specific conditions. Sometimes the first indicator of trouble is the user experience..sometimes it is hardware or something not as obvious in…

I will also have to echo network defender, the consumer has to bear some responsibility. There are laws about false advertising...but there are so many examples of it, I don't believe it is addressed until it causes harm.

Remedy is not a remedy...

still no love for day 19 after answering the survey and leaving a comment. subsequent visits to the survey page show the survey results and not the ability to answer the questions so it knows I replied to the survey.

Exactly, and even if random you could still get skewed result based on various demographics.
