Wow ! Great story adatole !

Part of the original problem with dynamite was the nitroglycerin would essentially "leak" out since it wasn't bound to anything. Part of the merchant of death was the result of explosions and deaths at his plants. Later he was able to figure out a way to keep it bound and more stable. What many people don't realize is that…

For many the panacea of 5 9's is unobtainable because of how they classify downtime or they have services hosted on single servers with no failover/high availability solutions in place. Even then, if they count every single outage against the 5 9's and not of the service...they are likely doomed to failure.

I've been here 3.5 hours or so already...so I am late today.

welcome back !

Various portions of the RF spectrum propagate in many ways. Though in tropospheric ducting as an example, VHF and at times UHF signals can go quite a way and is seen often in relation to frontal boundaries. Skip as referred to in CB lingo happens at a different atmospheric layer and predominately occurs at HF frequencies…

xtraspecialj, Solarwinds time to implementation is much faster than much of the competition. Please don't forget the fact that the vendor actively engages the customer base for ideas and input on improvements... My past experience with HP has seen responses from the vendor two or three years after an "enhancement request"…

Should hopefully be somewhat similar to what is being done with google maps and the NWS (National Weather Service) here in the US. There should be some topics on in here in Thwack.

Standard security rules apply whether Federal or not. Just because the Government has legislated loose rulings does not mean that federal or non federal IT shops can't or shouldn't implement stronger, stricter, and generally tighter procedures/restrictions on IoT devices or any device for that matter.

CA Unicenter also provided that capability...but it still had it faults.

I couldn't agree more adatole ! IT is all about change and your personal growth/knowledge base must grow with the changes. Knowing how things all inter-relate makes it all easier.

The AF-s 50mm 1.8 is a great tack sharp lens for cheap. The 85mm 1.8 is a superb portrait lens...it is on my short list. I do have a couple zoom's though, they have their place in the tool box. (Tokina f2.8's)

don't forget to look up candied bacon....

You speak of critical path. It exists in many areas of IT. The is a set of critical path batch jobs that must run every day and be complete before the next days business begins. There are critical path parts of the infrastructure that must be up and operational to support the days business and daily batch. It cuts across…

The answers were correct IMHO. I believe some may have an issue with a phrase that at first glance appears the same but is not. Measure twice, cut once.

I believe you can do it with some fancy SQL in your alert query. Assuming you have 4 load balanced web servers for application XX. Set a custom property of app_server_type = 'app_xx_webserver' Then in your query select the number of nodes with a status of 'UP' in which the custom property of app_server_type =…

snapshots are a tool and have a place...but you still need a good full backup from time to time.

I'd suggest DNA, but even then it can be changed due to mutations brought on by the environment.

Without a doubt it is Dez !

It would be neat to have an oncall calendar built in as well. But having this calendar based functionality is the first step...
-
sounds like you need a dedicated DBA....it would be so nice if there was an add-on data warehouse plugin for MS-SQL. On the other hand trying to get Solarwinds to see the need we have for a data warehouse.... I do know that some product managers and at least 1 head geek is aware of this thread...not to mention UX folks,…

@"zennifer" Thank you for what you do! Having spent 12 years in the fire service the 911 call centers are crucial and the life blood for PD/FD/EMS. Without them we couldn't get the call info and when in the field, if that same call center is involved with the radio traffic it may be our only way to get additional…

hmmm..never considered the inpersonation of one patient to get meds or treatment.... brings a new level of thinking to the idea of identity theft.

There will likely always be something un-monitored for some reason be it is legacy gear without proper interfaces, in an isolated network, gear you don't own/have any access to, Then there are the out of the blue requests for things that people assume you can do...

If you put this on each persons profile page (what they can only see) or a tab, they can see and track all the steps towards the mission/badge. Might be able to use a format similar to how the steps to various badges are represented...that way you maintain a similar look and feel.
