We have a situation where we need to do a very similar transition and I have a few questions of procedure as well as technique for someone to comment on. We will be installing new hardware therefore to minimize down time I have planned the following to be our course of action unless SW can provide me with reasoning as to…

I would be very interested in discussng this more with you We have been having the same issues with the same views resetting at Jon. The difference is that we only have two admins that know how to change the views and both of us knew the other did not, or was not doing it After lots of investigation we found that the view…

I have a few more questions after speaking with the VM systems guy. Dedicated NIC describes what? My understanding of VM is that the physical NIC (hardware) are configured to connect to virtual switches on the VM. Those virtual switches then are configured to go to certain virtual machines via VLAN Tagging. As far as the…

rgward to achieve what you are looking for you will need to do the following: Select the field on the "Select Fields" tab. On the "Field Formatting" tab click the column you would like to have as the "hotlink" and add the following to the "WebURL" field. /Orion/IPAM/subnets.aspx?opento=${SubnetID} Be sure to set the…

I think the MIB/OID you are looking for is described here --> http://tools.cisco.com/Support/SNMP/do/BrowseOID.do?local=en&translate=Translate&objectInput=1.3.6.1.4.1.9.5.1.3.1.1.3 I checked this on a 3750 stack that we have here and 1.3.6.1.4.1.9.5.1.3.1.1.3.1 and 1.3.6.1.4.1.9.5.1.3.1.1.3.2 were the serials for each…

I belive we had a similar problem when our virus scan/security program was updated. You may want to check that the outbound traffic on that server through port 25 is working. I will try to find in my notes exactly what are problem was but you may want to take a look at your firewall settings on that machine/sercurity…

I usually find it best practice to copy an existing alert and rename it to something else and then edit that rather then changing the stock alerts. I have had times when years later it would have been nice to have the stock alert to build off of and it had been locked hacked into something else. Along the same lines I also…

I have encountered a similar problem although I am unsure if its the same .exe file that is casuing the problems. I noticed that my poller completion percentage has been very low 95.xx% on occasion. After some research I found that durring nightly maintenance the DB was getting hung on VoipCCMPhoneStats table when…

Woodrow you can accomplish what you want by using the "Edit" button the resource and adding a SQL filter. I do not have the exact syntax off-hand but you should see some example filters when you expand the SQL filter near the bottom of the "Edit Resource" screen. If you only want to filter the Server in question you can…

Alert Suppression in terms of Orion can be confusing. Orion takes suppression to mean Router A goes down so do not alert me to all downstream devices cause I will assume they will be down as well due to Router A. Example can be found on Orion Guide page 281. I think you mean suppression as "Do not alert in certain cases".…

When you are creating the alert make a condition that does the following Where any of the following are true: NodeName is equal to "devicename" NodeName is equal to "otherdevicename" This should only send alerts for the two devices that you state.

Like Mark mentioned that is a good start to making some custom groups. Another approach my company took was to do the following. 1. Create a Custom Property that described business unit and device type 2. Set the custom property per device to its associated business unit 3. Used the All Nodes - AJAX resource and then…

Support gave me these instuctions when I had to upload. Hopefully this is comon procedure. If not they can edit my post. Here are the instructions to upload the files: 1. Go to http://solarwinds.leapfile.com and click "Secure Upload" 2. Enter support@solarwinds.net as the "Receiver Email" 3. Fill out the form and attach…

In case anyone is trying to get SNMPv3 working, I created a tutorial for our engineers and thought I would post the link for people here. kb.packetpros.com/ [updated link] I believe this is the link he created. packetpros.com/.../How_do_I_configure_SNMPv3_on_a_router?

If you want just one indicator for all of the servers. E.g. If all are up show a giant green button, all down show a red button, some down show a yellow button you can do this in map maker. If you want to just show a status or list of dvices with updown and a link to node details this can be done easily by creating a…

Can you post screen shots or describe the trigger actions better then "page our cell phones". I would assume that since the emails are working your trigger conditions are correct but your actions may have an issue. The more information you can give the better.

This topic is very interesting. It seems this pops up from the community about every 9-12 months, gets hased out and always ends with the same answer. Solarwinds stance is from a legal point in that they can not use the API without paying for it since it is not open to the public, but rather a paid product. The end user is…

I have applied the fix that you sent. Very nice work. One thing I have noticed is that you have to click on "Get Next 100 Nodes" at the bottom of the list if you have more then 100 nodes in a certain grouping. I would rather not have this feature and just have all the nodes in a certain group show up all at once. I was…
