Peter - Will 3.1 support Windows Server 2012 R2 as a platform? Regards, John

That's odd! Underneath Polling Details on the 2nd drop-down there should be a list option of "Custom Properties" - If you change type of property to monitor to node at the top of the box does it appear there? Regards, John
-
Cheers guys, glad people are finding it useful bluefunelemental: that one annoys me as well, it was a real PITA to go through all our edge ports and mark them as unplugged - the nice thing about using custom properties is that they can be added as a column in the Manage Nodes/Interfaces table so you can sort/pick based on…

Hi Jeff - 1) Open "c:\Program Files (x86)\SolarWinds\Orion\HardwareHealth\SolarWinds.HardwareHealth.Pollers.dll.config" file in notepad 2) Change <add key="IgnoreCiscoNewEntityMib" value="false"/> to <add key="IgnoreCiscoNewEntityMib" value="true"/> This what you are after? Regards, John

We haven't seen this on ours, but we are running ver 5.2(7) of NX-OS (SNMP v3 with auth and priv) Regards, John

Hi Andy - Yes, the 101, 102 etc are definitely referring to your Fex units - that's how they are labelled on an interface basis by default (i.e. Int eth101\0\1 for the first interface on the first Fex) Looking at the ID results, I think that the Row ID values are as follows: 22 Supervisor 470 PS 1 471 PS 2 When i do a show…

Hi all, I took a slightly different approach to this: I created a custom interface property (called StackPort funnily enough) and assigned this to all my stackport interfaces. Then I created an alert to fire an email whenever an interface with this custom property changes status to down. It's simple but works well.…

Yup, works a treat. Commands used differ depending on the model of switch though, which models are you looking to test?
-
A simple way of getting the relevant info in a more readable format from the switches is to actually enable port-security with a maximum number of MAC addresses set to a very high number, i.e. 1024 or so. You can then issue the show port-security command which gives you a nice to read table: Secure Port MaxSecureAddr…

Doable (I think), using a custom policy report with the relevant rules created and included, then a remediation script on the rule that puts the no in front of the relevant commands. The only thing I'm not sure about is whether you can be selective on interfaces (i.e. IF int fe1/0/1 CONTAINS "mls qos trust cos" then DO "no…

Hi Rick - You may be able to do this by creating a device template that is specific to these devices, and edit the commands to issue a show tech etc. (if memory serves, it may just be a case of changing the value <Command Name="Running" Value="running-config"/> to <Command Name="Running" Value="tech"/> And then assign this…

The Cisco ASA platform doesn't support write mode SNMP (for fairly obvious security reasons), so if NCM is looking for write access to get the configs it'll never happen!! You really need to be using SSH access to download firewall configs. Regards, John

Hi Michal - 1) What protocols/routing data do you need to monitor? BGP and OSPF for me. 2) What value do you expect from this routing table monitoring (just actual state, do you want to compare it against older snapshots, what info are you looking for there) Current state, neighbour details, update frequency, compare would…

Hi Jon - Have you tried editing the credentials in NCM for these units just to see if they can be re-applied? Also, have you recently upgraded to NCM 7.2? I had a couple of similar issues post upgrade which were fixed by re-entering the correct login details for the devices. Regards, John

Hi Jon - I'm sure someone may have a much cleverer way of doing it, but I use the method outlined in this document to alert on this sort of thing. I've got a similar set up as yourself and I've simply created a custom property to tag the VSS VSL and fast-hello interfaces as "interesting" and hence to send an alert when one…
-
This is possible, it's fairly straightfoward. Once you've added the switch, go to Manage Nodes and select/filter the "uninteresting" ports then Edit Properties. All you have to do is select the Display interface as unplugged rather than down option: The interfaces will now show with a nice blue icon when there is nothing…

I've sent you an email Kellie. Regards, John
-
Hi Kellie, * More useful * The ability to take actions directly from the hover is a major plus * Tools, manage/unmamage, view syslog/alerts/events for the device (pre-filtered) * Main device page * Pointless having the background colour the same as the icon colour. * group membership Regards, John

Hi, 1st thing to remember is that the 2960 & 3750 units may well not have enough memory to store two copies of the IOS file (in fact it's almost certain they don't). Therefor you'd have to delete the existing bin file before copying the new one. Secondly, the bin file isn't normally stored in the root of flash on these…

Hi Jeff - I've been having the same issue, I've put in the workaround you suggest but if you do get a definitive answer can you let me know? Like you I've tried every regex string I can think of, the only thing that strikes me as odd is that it requires both criteria to work as separate entities. Regards, John

Hi Andrew - Not familiar with the kit, but it looks like NPM is either looking at a different CPU than the device dashboard or more likely aggregating the percentage use of all the CPUs it can see on the chassis. Do you have multiple modules installed on the chassis? Might be worth investigating if you can see directly the…

Hi, Definitely possible, just a case of having two parameters: @Source_int and @destination_int and then selecting them when you run the script. Regards, John

I'd love this feature too, if only because we are migrating from telnet to SSH at the moment across a 1000 device estate!! The method I currently use to check is to run the Backup Status Of Running Config report from NCM - As our default access is telnet, any device that fails it's overnight backup is usually because it's…

Hi - If you know the IP range of your public addresses, then a very quick and dirty way of finding out what is "live" is to perform a NESSUS scan from another location. At the very least, this will give you an idea of what IPs are responding, what ports are open etc. and will even give you a rough idea of what OS the IP is…

Hi - Is NCM set to use SSH auto to connect? Also, what type of device is it that you are trying to connect to? Regards, John
-
Hi Zack - I think the issue may be that you are trying to run two commands on the same line of the template. Without having a CUE to test with I can't be definite, but I'd expect the template to have two separate lines, one for the the session onto the service module then one for the config download: 01. <Command…
-
Hi mmedwid, All you need to do is tell NCM to ignore the lines beginning with !Time, adding the details below to your comparison criteria should sort it: Regards, John
-
Hi - First thing, you may need to upgrade the IOS version of your 3750 stacks. We had the same issue with a number of them last year, and it turned out to be a couple of bugs that meant the SNMP engine on the switch slows and then stops responding: other indications are that a sho interface status command issued on the…

Hi Jon, Not found a "direct" method but I find the easiest way to get them into notepad is to go to Config Summary, select the relevant Node from the Node List box, choose the config that you want and just highlight the text in the Config Details box then copy and past it into your editor of choice. As an alternative, NCM…

From discussions with a few of the Cisco SEs that I know, it will be a little while yet before ACS is canned; indeed, ver 5.8 has just been released so that's got at least 3-4 years before it becomes unsupportable (ver 5.7 has just been marked as EoS -…
