  • I applied the update to our NPM and Poller yesterday morning and while the syslog and events pages appear to load much faster now we're finding overall performance to be much slower than before the update. We have a Network Atlas map on our front page the fails to load about 60% of the time now. We also appeared to loose…
  • Hi all, was sad to see this functionality didn't make it into 10.0 Just to reiterate my previous request, and backup others' suggestions, it would be great to see graphs auto-scale by default but allow the option to manually override min/max y-axis values. I'm using Orion NPM to monitor a *lot* more than just switches and…
  • Okay, installed SP5 this morning and managed to get the website up and running again. SNMP Traps are back in the web console but I appear to have broken WPTA logins now!
  • I hope groups functionality filters down to NPM, too...I'd love to be able to manage settings for groups of accounts rather than having the manually replicate them to 10-15 users at a time.
  • Well, nothing really! The router trapped the failed auths from the poller, as usual, but nothing was logged to Orion as none of it's services were running. We only saw the AUTHFAILs at all because our Orion installation isn't our only syslog server.
  • Hmm...I'm noticing more and more of my servers are now reporting their NICs and volumes as being 'unknown'. This is getting to be a real problem as it's actually quite hard to get a report telling you what devices are in this state! It doesn't alert you when you a device goes into this state, from what I can see. The…
  • Well, I worked my way through this one sectin of my network at a time and I'm now happy with the state of monitoring on the network.A SQL query was needed that would reliably select and delete interfaces with the following criteria:- fast ethernet ports- without the no_auto_manage flag set- on nodes with a vendor of…
  • Okay, back on a vanilla 9.5.0 install now with no SPs and the system's working again, but still no traps visible in the web GUI.
  • Hi Andy, the problem is that Orion NPM (9.5 SP5) is displaying both the Vendor and Machine Type as Cisco. I would like to see the 'real' machine type (i.e. Cisco Catalyst 2960-48PST) rather 'Cisco'.
  • Well, I wasn't but I just upgraded to SP4 and am now experiencing a rather more pressing problem in that I can't get IIS to start the solarwinds website! It keeps telling me I already have a website with the same name/ip/port. Currently reinstalling Orion NPM to see if that fixes it.
  • A quick "me too" here, we have loads of 3750 Es and Xs across campus and a number of them started exhibiting this behaviour recently. One stack in particular is racking up discards in the billions in any given 24 hour period. We're moving to 15 soon, hopefully fixed there...
  • Cheers Marie... Here's something very curious: all our Orion services were shutdown overnight while I ran some database maintenance (we've been suffering from bloated wireless stats killing the scheduled database maintenance jobs). However, we still saw SNMP AUTHFAIL messages from one of our routers indicating a failed…
  • Bad news, I was wondering why my poller is now showing a significantly higher number of interfaces being monitored now, much more than expected. All the nodes that have had interfaces added since the re-import have actually been duplicated, rather than simply adding the interface to the existing node. This is really…
  • Hi, I'm also having a similar issue with a number UnDP graphs I'm creating for voltage, temperature, humidity, etc. It would be extremely useful to be able to manually set scale values for graphs or, even better, have some user accessible interface to scaling.cfg and then be able to manually assign settings to graphs from…
  • Hey Dentifrice, just tried your suggested workflow (although in my case I changed from v2 to v1 and back again) and my devices are back as normal now. Good to know there's a workaround for this issue but it needs looking into as a proper bug. I can't go restarting my pollers every time I want to suspend monitoring a device.
  • Do you need to purchase an 'additional web server' licnse or can you just split off the one running on a normal NPM install?
  • Cheers, Denny, but the Exclude/Include on keywords functionality (I believe) only operates on the contents of the <EventData> part of the event. My server team have a specific requirement to filter on the <EventID Qualifiers="16384"> part of event (with reference to the XML layout of the event logs). They got back to me…
  • Ah, Darryl, that makes sense! If I re-import my nodes a netblock at a time I can import them with all interfaces monitored then strip out the unwanted ones with some SQL and not overload the pollers while I'm doing it. I'll report back how I get on later...
  • I just had a quick chat with our DBA re. optimised RAID configuration and with our setup (8x 300GB disks on one HBA) he recommended to the following: 2 disks in RAID1 for system, logs, page, applications, etc 2 disks in RAID1 for SQL logs 3 disks in RAID5 with 64k stripe for SQL data 1 hot spare available to all other…
  • I've just taken delivery of additional hardware to expand our evaluation NPM setup from a single server to the following: Server 1 - SQL server - HP DL380, 2.83GHz quad-core, 8GB RAM, Windows Server 2k8 Enterprise Server 2 - Orion NPM+NCM+poller, web server - HP DL160, 2.53GHz quad-core, 6GB RAM, Windows Server 2k8…
  • I'm having a very similar issue over here: Wonder if it's connected? All my devices are monitored via snmp v2c so it's not the fall-back issue you describe.
  • Interestingly, from the SNMP FAQ, this appears to be correct behaviour: net-snmp.sourceforge.net/.../FAQ.html By default, unless given an explicit starting OID, then the 'snmpwalk' command will display the contents of the 'mib-2' tree, containing most of the IETF-standard management information supported by the agent. When…
  • Hi, I'm trying to get some work done with the 'Execute Script" functionality and am running into the same issue. It was working fine for a short while but after successfully submitting a few scripts to nodes it's just getting stuck every time I try to select new nodes now. I've tried restarting the Solarwinds Information…
  • It wasn't suggested that this be the only route to getting limited licenses for testing. Merely that it may be a nice perk for those of us who are certified. We were asked what use we would put those licenses to and this was one of the suggestions, that's all... I agree that it's very difficult to do 'proper' testing of…
  • Hi, did this ever get fixed? I've just enabled SNMP trapping on my system and am experiencing exactly the same issue of traps visible in the viewer app and Traps Summary but nothing on the actual Traps page.
  • Hi, we've got a couple of Gamatronic UPSs with the GMACI Power+ management cards in them. While Solarwinds recognises them correctly (i.e. recognises the system OID) the included MIB is out of date and I can't poll the values I require with a universal poller. Could we please have the MIB for: 1.3.6.1.4.1.6050.5 Updated to…
  • 1.3.6.1.4.1.9.1.1208 Cisco 2960S-24PS
  • Our APC UPSs with the new management card (UPS Network Management Card 2) are all coming up with the generic "American Power Conversion Corp." MachineType. I'm guessing Orion doesn't have the new MIB for this card to enable it to find the UPS hardware it's connected to. The OID is 1.3.6.1.4.1.318.1.3.27 The UPSs themselves…
  • Not showing as 'unknown' but reporting the machine type incorrectly as 'Cisco': Cisco 3560-48PS 1.3.6.1.4.1.9.1.1068 Cisco 2960-48PST 1.3.6.1.4.1.9.1.1016 Cisco 2975GS-48PS 1.3.6.1.4.1.9.1.1068 (I know, the 3560 and 2975 have the same OID. Tut-tut Cisco!)
  • Just a quick note to point out that, as of 9.5, this is no longer an issue for us and all devices are no discovered correctly.
