A script would not work for me either. Have "pools" of servers under different admin control. I could do that but it would be a pain in the butt. I am really after here is to find out the lowest level of security needed to perform APM monitoring. IE, can I make a normal user account call SolarWinds on the domain and just…
-
Yea but I have 1000+ servers. That is a lot of keyboard time.
-
Awesome explanation thank you very much.
-
Thanks so much for the info! What are the specs of your pollers and what CPU/MEM percentages do they normally run at?
-
I would make it seperate. It does not have to be a high horsepower box and a VM would easily do. Otherwise every issue you have you will question the web server. Just my 2 cents.
-
Both of those to be honest. Endpoint alerting would be more of special use whereas application would be more general use. For example I could see alerting on a netflow source because let's say it is in the middle east and we want to know when they start doing a lot of filesharing or P2P traffic because it would mean a…

Brandon, if I download MRTG I would expect to do a lot of manual work. If I pay thousands for a product (10's of thousands in my particular case) I expect it to do a lot out of the box. Otherwise, what are you paying for? If I was using Fred's Fabulous Print Server that I bought off of Ebay for $1.99 I would expect to have…

I did some research and Iron supports SNMP but you have to get their MIB file and install it for it to work. So I took the simple route and added them to NPM as ICMP only and to APM with SMTP monitors.
-
Sounds like SNMP like you say is being dropped. The most common issue for that would be not enough bandwidth available or circuit errors. If this is on a WAN circuit I would check bandwith usage during those times an or interface errors.
-
You are correct they are in the DB. They are encryted with a key that is apprently specific per server. So change servers or reinstall windows and you're hosed.
-
I have done many many upgrades and while some were problematic and some error free I never had to restore and resintall. I think if you get yourself caught in a crack it is probably better to fight out the problems then go through the motions of a reinstall. But thats just my opinion.
-
No I am asking for a relative setting. IE when the pruge job runs to always delete configs older than X days/weeks/months.
-
If you do not want to go through support you could always run the config wizard and reinstall the netflow service.

We use CA's ticketing system called Service Desk and we now heavily use auto ticketing based on emails from NPM. We had to tweak the alerts so they were not to chatty but it worked out great for us.
-
Actually I brought it up because our company is trying to do this now. We have some appliance we are trying out that will scan for printers and actively watch them for stats and will alert for paper outages other issues etc. This I think is mostly to get a handle on the cost of printing more than to simply manage printers.…

Not really what I am lookin for. If I have to do all the leg work, create the views , make the custom pollers, find the MIBs, use trial and error to try to prove I have the right figures and do this for each each platform etc etc etc... I might as well go get MRTG and not pay anything.
-
To be honest at this point I do not expect a security module. I do not mean that at all, just more thought for security going into the modules there are given the breadth of info SolarWinds captures. So in reality maybe just more detail and specificity will allow it to be used for a security tool. So things like NTA…
-
I think that will be because we are not actually pulling info from the switch in the phone. So were are reading it from the point of view of something else. So we know its there and we know its MAC but we also know that it is not plugged into us directly.
-
That's the info I was looking for thank you for your honesty.

The entire point is that it is EASY for ANYONE to do and that it is just there from the get go. I speak of new functions or ideas not just to solve my own problems with layer upon layer of manual customization but I try to think of how it could benefit the product as ultimately that benefits me.
-
9.5 SP3 to SP4
-
Brandon I was just using examples not real variables. But I could have used the examples in the alert and gotten the same result :P
-
Well its a little like I am talking about but I was trying to think past just a very simple front end. I was just a suggestion so I was shooting for the sky and hoping for the horizon.
-
None that I know of. We do have a good bit of web traffic though.
-
Aother handy item would be able to select an IP subnet group instead of the individual subnets and be able to select or unselect them.
-
Glad it works for you not so for me and I have the same Sup's you do. I think it might be a code difference. I am seeing the same thing on all my 4500's some work and some don't and the only difference between them is code level. Petr I will do that and get it to you. I will run a 4500 thats works and one that does not as…

I saw increased CPU and RAM loads as well as disk I/O as the system got larger. Keep in mind my main box was/is not being used for SQL or the website I have dedicated servers for those functions. I would notice visible differences when adding pollers or large amounts of elements to other pollers.
-
It does but I have both sitations where some are scheduled and some are not.

I already had one open but response is slow I was hoping for something here. I assume they are slammed with 9.5
