Thanks for your kind reply. I wonder if SW did this in response to a problem? Did they ask their user base if this made sense or would be helpful? No answer needed.... thanks for the link.

Am I translating this correctly? Bulk list: Orion takes the list of hostnames , resolves them into IPs and adds them as IPs only, so hostnames are gone and IPs would have to be manually edited to change them to the host name in Orion. Discovery via icmp-only produces IPs only in Orion, because reverse DNS is not used in…

Thanks! I just want to verify that you mean to leave the * at default, not enter a text string of "*". I will try these suggestions! Debbi

Is there a better resolution to this now that 10.4.2 is here? Debbi

Hope my attachment will work OK on this post. I am posting one of my Orion screens. You can see the Correct normal font on the right and the funky font on the left. It may have something to do with the Resource. When I try to recreate this Resource (custom grouped by snmp location), I no longer see the option for grouping…

Has no one else tried the circular layout in Network Atlas?

You may be interested in this link, in which one vendor shows an integration possibility between Netflow Monitor and Orion. Yeah, I know, you have to buy Netflow Monitor. But just FYI. www.netflow-monitor.com/.../ Debbi

I have this experience, too. Are you running Netflow as well? -Debbi

Good question. I get this, too. -Debbi

But this is a default choice off the left side of the interface page. It's not a resource I added to a page. Has it been wrong since the beginning of time? -Debbi

BB, when I look at the NTA main screen, at one interface, traffic in, traffic out, it always shows a small number even though we get alerts like mad from Orion saying our interface is above 90%. If I then click on the interface to see the detail, I can see greater totals, but these are 15-minute numbers. One question I…

I followed the instructions in the Release Notes (uninstall, then reinstall) but they did not remind me to backup my webengine so I lost a lot of website customizations. I should have downloaded the admin guide first and used the instructions in it. Doesn't help that I do this maintenance at 5AM so I am always a little…

Anyone?

Yes. When you add a node, check the box that says "Node does not support snmp". -Debbi

First, let me say I would NEVER go back to HPOV. The intuitive maneuvering and easy config cannot be beat for our needs. Shortfalls I see in Orion: Alert suppression is not an exact science. You schedule the main nodes to be polled more often than the downstream nodes, and, IF you are lucky, it works. If not, you get a…

We moved from HPOV to Orion a few years ago. The current version of Orion allows 3 levels of grouping on the overview page, based on common snmp items (machine type, snmp location (which I use), or a custom property you might assign to nodes (like City, Site, etc.)). So you could group by City, then Site, then Closet, and…

I have the same issues. Very good servers/SQL. DB is about 35 gig after 3 days. Web interface basically unusable. I am only exporting from two interfaces (at network core) and cannot imagine that I will be able to add the others now that the db is so huge and the response time is so bad. Also, both my endpoints and domain…

Apparently no one has any idea how to do this. :)

You have to go into the interface details, select automatic bandwidth, Apply, go out of the interface details, go back in, then set your custom bandwidth and apply. -Debbi

After my 8.5.1. experience so far I am scared to apply this SP. Anyone else tried it? -Debbi

Scheduling maintenance windows I have asked for for a long time. It amazes me that that has not been programmed into Orion yet. The filters for alerting are not nearly as powerful as our much cheaper Kiwi syslog program. That is one reason we have not changed over to using Orion's syslog service. If you guys fired up Kiwi…

Netflow add-in - here is a link to a vendor that has a way to incorporate Netflow Monitor with Orion. Yes, you have to buy Netflow Monitor, but you may be interested in knowing about this possibility. www.netflow-monitor.com/.../ Debbi PS: I am underwhelmed by the fact that not many people seem to think that having a…

Maybe none of you get these errors. Since there's no reply I have opened a support ticket. -Debbi

I would imagine that this is one of the primary reasons that an organization would want to use a netflow collector... when we get a report that certain IPs on the internet are implicated in attacks on our network, and can plant trojans, we would want to see which of our hosts have been communicating with it over the last…

Same thing happened on a fresh install of ver. 9 on a new box this AM. Since we do not have sa privileges to the db, we get a few dialog boxes that come up during the install, and they come up behind the Wizard boxes. You can just hit <enter> and it moves on, but the first time you kinda want to see what the dialog boxes…

How do you suggest I count the flows? Our db is 87 gig, with a 60-day compressed retention. Debbi

Definitely would like this! -Debbi

I need an answer to this ASAP, otherwise will need to open a ticket. Thanks. Debbi

The "object" errors are no longer appearing, so thanks! Debbi

I would like to know exactly what was changed to minimize the false positives. -Debbi quote:Originally posted by josh@solarwinds.net There is a Beta Release of the Orion NPM SLX Version 7.3 at: ftp.solarwinds.net/.../SolarWinds-NetPerfMon-V7-SLX.exe Version 7.3 includes changes that should minimize the false positives that…
