Great article. Although, in my experience it is usually blamed on the "Network Shop". I would be nice to have Lessons Learned on this one and I am sure in the next year or so, it will be done.

thanks for the reminder on this one.

Awesome information. Adding to me content list.

These look like some pretty high tech machines. I wonder if they have any mibs for the technology so I can monitor my Chunkin' with Solarwinds NPM, SAM, NCM, and NTA.

I think it is especially sad from a society stand point that you get 25 or so people in the same area (25 square yards) and nobody is talking or having a conversation. They are to busy with their technology.

Does this not provide you with your requirement. I would suggest using SNMP v3 with ACLs. You should also have a standard VLAN for your management servers and anther for management workstations. From there you should be able to take care of most if not all your mgt requirements. Or am I missing something.

Good topic. Keep it coming.

In my travels, I have seen many people use regex successful with the NCM Compliance. For those programmers that love regex, it is easy for them. For those of us that like it and trying to learn, it takes a bit more time. I major issue I see out there, is the willingness to share their regex code with Thwack from non-Thwack…

thanks for the recap.

Enjoyable read. Thanks Paul. Eric

When you add new nodes to your database you come across this screen. Or This functionality is already in NCM, so I am not sure what the question is or the what the issue maybe.

So going back to the original question "What is a well managed network?", I think we here have settled on a few key points. 1. Standardizations 2. Documentation 3. Active Monitoring 4. Communication between various groups 5. Not affecting production or operation traffic 6. Continuous Improvement (to the network and to the…

Do not forget to check out the new Cisco Security Audit Reports. These are filled with regular expressions that should fit more environments.

rschroeder, When I build the compliance reports, I do not put remediation into the rule. I never had a comfortable feeling with the application doing the work behind the scene for me. I use the configuration template and the excellent examples from goodzhere. Here is a dashboard I use to view all my compliance audits.…

I think just having a defined process that is followed is one of the major hurdles some organizations deal with. Organizing a Board, convening the Board, and executing results. Some changes should be "Boarded" and some probably should just have a peer review. Just having a process is a step forward to achieve NCCM.

What is a well managed network? A well managed network is based solely on the administrator or team that operation and have oversight of the complete network. From the access port to the ISP demarcation port the team needs to be able to have complete control/access at every point. At the end of the day a well managed…

Looking forward to learning more. Going to an NSX Class next week.

It's one thing to have a decent firewall that logs traffic and activity (good or bad), it is another to have a SIEM Solution which is in lock step with your environment. The issue I see more often then not, is the organization not resourcing the SIEM Team enough to review the logs, review the policies, ensure all the…

Yes, that is the plan.

I have been looking into the OpenStack and SDN stuff, but not sure I am ready for it.
