NTA on remote poller

Hi all,

I have found only one article (so far) that points to a remote poller, lets say is a DMZ, that can also be used as a netflow collector.  I am seeking confirmation that this is the case.  If this is the case, what licensing issues or considerations come into play specifically for NTA?

Article Ref: Re: New to NTA - Question about remote collectors

The context for this is, we do not want to permit the netflow exports direct access to the main NPM/NTA server due to security policy.

Appreciate any insights anyone can provide on this. Thanks in advance.

  • As long as you installed the Netflow module on your APE you are all set to start collecting inbound flows, assuming you are running a recent version of the installer then it would have been installed automatically when you set up the APE to begin with.  Netflow is licensed to match your NPM license, so if those routers and interfaces are being monitored as nodes are in NPM they are automatically licensed for NTA.

There are no special restrictions or additional requirements, just start sending flows to it and your should see them in the netflow events.

  • Thanks mesverrum

Is there a minimum version required on the core NPM install for the additional poller installation?  The existing core NPM/NTA install is not running the latest version, so I am trying to understand how we can complete the implementation of the additional poller with the minimum effort to get functionality while we plan out the necessary system upgrades etc.

    thanks in advance
