Can you try to record transaction where navigate to your page occurs like somewhere in the middle of the transaction ? For example first navigate to google.com and then navigate to your page and then try to play it from recorder. Does this issue occurs on different browsers, fe on IE 10 ?
Recorder is not doing anything special. You can check it's User Agent string by navigating to http://www.useragentstring.com/ to see how exactly it's reported to the website. The User Agent string that the error reports is the same as IE 11 reports. It's described for example here: Internet Explorer 11’s Many User-Agent Strings - IEInternals - Site Home - MSDN Blogs
It seems that your page is using User Agent string detection and is not able to properly parse official IE11 string.
There is a slight difference. I will read the documentation that you posted. So, essentially the application is not accepting (does not like) this User Agent string at the bottom (inside the recorder).
Using IE v11 running outside of the recorder
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; Win64; x64; Trident/7.0; rv:11.0) like Gecko
Using the browser inside the recorder
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; Trident/7.0; rv:11.0) like Gecko
Yes, the web developer was incorrectly determining user agent string.
Solution I used:
- Dedicate a player to playing/recording scripts for these types of websites, and or ones needing standards mode, or only supported on older browsers.
- Modify 2 registry settings for the solarwinds player and recorder which use browser emulation.
I set these to IE 8, which in decimal is 8888
