"Windows Scheduled Tasks" option missing under "List Resources"

Hello,

This morning we updated our SAM installation to 6.1.  Per some pre-release documentation (Server & Application Monitor 6.1 - New Feature Overview and Beta Sign-Up) I was under the impression that the ability to monitor Windows scheduled tasks was going to be a part of this release.  However, when trying to set it up on some of my Server 2008 R2 nodes I am not seeing that option listed under "List Resources" for any of them.  The last option is "Asset Inventory".

Is this something I can enable, or am I in need to getting in touch with technical support?

  • Hello,

This option appears in "List Resources" only for WMI nodes. It is possible to monitor scheduled tasks on ICMP or SNMP nodes but it is necessary to assign "Windows Scheduled Tasks" template to these nodes manually.

If node is WMI then checkbox can be hidden in following cases:

    • No scheduled task is detected on the target machine. Please note that we get information about scheduled tasks only from root folder.
    • The Orion machine is running Windows 2003. In this case we are not able to detect tasks from Windows 2008 and later because it uses new version of API.

If this not your case please open support ticket and we will look at your issue more deeply.

    Thanks,

    Lukas Belza (SolarWinds development)

  • That was exactly the case; thank you.  Changing the monitoring type to WMI allowed me to see that option automatically.  Thanks for the tip on adding it to SNMP nodes as well.
