We are transferring our server monitoring from Argent to SolarWinds and I have a question regarding one of the things the Argent admin was doing that I need to "translate" to work in SolarWinds. Currently Argent connects to the Windows file servers via NetRemoteTOD (time of day) API to verify a server is up and operational. They want to go beyond the simple ping to ensure it really is up and functioning and not in a hung state. I am guessing we can do this somehow with SAM, but we have a limited number of licenses (not enough to monitor a sevice on all the servers), so what would you folks recommend to manage something like this?
