Server network traffic monitoring

What would be the best way to create a report on network traffic to a small group of servers?

  • What kind of information are you looking to present of the report? Just numbers for bps, or information on both how much and what type of data (smtp, http, management etc).

To get the numbers, all you need to do is add the nodes that represent the servers into a group, and then run a report using the group name as the restriction (using a group means you can move nodes in and out of the group without having to change the report every time).

For more detailed stats, you're going to be looking at using either Network Traffic Analyser (trial license initially) or deploying a network or software packet analyzer and using the Quality of Experience part of NPM, and then creating a report based on information these return.

  • For now just bandwidth will suffice.   I have the servers in a group already so this should be fairly easy.   Which report would you recommend to apply the filter to?

    Appreciate the help.

  • Create your own! Add in a custom table resource to your report (assuming you've got the web report writer), and then add in the columns you need.
