NCM Config Archive Folder Locations / Network Share Settings

To connect a shared network drive you would need to attach the network drive to the SolarWinds server or target SolarWinds poller machine you would like to store the config archive on.  You then provide the location to SolarWinds as it can see drive letters.  Hope this helps.

I tried doing just that and it doesn't validate in the NCM settings.  I have a case open with solarwinds and they tell me it's not possible.  The Solarwinds server is not on the domain, and the network share is on the domain.  They say the solarwinds server and the archive folder must be on the same domain. 

In my environment, we have a PSCP job that moves configs for the day to a Linux server.  Windows Task Scheduler calls it and the job changes to the directory containing the date.  Then recursively copies to the Linux server.  Authentication via PKI.

Perhaps something like that is an option for you?

Have those configs in your database and filesystem? Want to copy them elsewhere securely via Windows Task Scheduler?

As long as all your poller(s) have the same drive letter assigned to the network storage drive in question, you should be able to use a mapped drive from any storage supported by windows in this way. I believe it has to take the format 'drive:\path\' in order to work, I don't think UNC paths are supported.

For example, if your pollers have a Z drive mapped to your archive storage, and the folder within that location is called backups, you could set the archive location to Z:\backups and you should be good.

You can make the change in Settings>NCM Settings>Config Archive Folder Locations.

We have ours set to a CIFS share ( \\servername\sharename ) and that works. What I'm curious about is that there's a whole section for the Backup Folders, as if you can have multiples, but I don't see a way to do this.

As I understand it, there's only one backup folder location, that you set via NCM settings. It could be that you're seeing the default backup locations, which are not removed when you point the backup folder elsewhere.

I do see only one, it's just odd to me that there's an entire page devoted to showing it in a listing style, as if there can be others.
