Does anyone have an idea on this? I am also looking to update some servers that do not show the location field. I can not find where I might be able to even update this field from NPM itself and i really done want to have to go into the database to find it.
I hate to be another "me too!", but I also have a few servers (Win 2012 and 2012 R2) that do not report any location in NPM.
I'm traveling right now so I can't pull this up to give you more detailed info, but I've seen in the past that it gets it from Active Directory, but not the location field. I think it was the Site field. See if that matches up with your environment and let us know.

For the servers that show a location that (AD Site Name) is the location they are reporting. It doesn't explain why one server has a location while another doesn't. For example, I have two servers that I deployed into the same vCenter from the same template, yet one shows a location and the other does not. The only other difference I see is that the node without a location also shows no CPUs. That is,
Location No of CPUs 0
Location Dallas No of CPUs 2
Both are polling with the same credentials using WMI. It would be useful to know which WMI objects are being polled here so I could query them myself (PowerShell) and see what values are being reported.
