I've been tasked to look at implementing STM and was wondering if it's agent-less or if every server will need an agent installed on it. Just thought I'd throw that out there before I start reading manuals.
Thanks

There's an agent needed, but there is on inherent to the STM server that you can use. The ability for the proxy agent is to take some of the load off the STM server. Also, depending on the storage, you may have to use an SMIS-Provider. But otherwise, no, no agents on the storage side.
Using STM to monitor | Agent Required? |
---|---|
Physical Server (Windows, Linux, AIX, HP-UX, Solaris) | Yes |
SAN or NAS devices | No |
FC Switch | No |
VMware | No |
If you want an agentless physical server monitoring tool, I would recommend SolarWinds Server and Application Monitor.
