Previous admin did not name things in a logical manner. Nor did he have Solarwinds. I Installed Solarwinds, but realized that the clusters were named the same in two different sites. I have renamed the clusters to makes sense based on location, but so far they still are named the same in Solarwinds.
1. Did I screw anything up in Solarwinds by renaming them?
2. If not - how long does it take for Solarwinds to figure it out and rename the clusters? Or does it take them as new clusters and provide "new" historical data for them?

First, are you using Virtualization Manager or the VIM module in NPM/SAM?
Second, how long did you wait to see this change? The configuration jobs in VMAN are every 12 hours by default, so you would need to wait until the next Config job ran to see this change on the VMAN side. You can go to the Administration tab and force a Configuration job to run:
