you can create your own alert which will inform you that VMs are unreachable. Here's an example of an alert which is fired when there's no update within last 20 minutes:
So if the performance data collection is older than 20 minutes then the alert is raised.

Do you want to get more information in the email? You can use the"concat('Last Time: ',/virtualMachine/perfDate, ' [', /virtualMachine/managedByServer, ']')" xpath to Notification value in Notifications tab:
Hey tried that. It doesn't seem to get the icmp though.
Still had some of the issues and didn't get the alert.
Any other ideas on how to get icmp from vman?

The above alert reports VMs that are not collected withing last 20 minutes (=the hypervisor doesn't report them; or the data collection is not working correctly).
Currently there is no way to check VMs using ICMP ping in VMAN.
